Heads off, T56 tranny, Hooker longtubes from the top, WONT GO IN!

I am trying the drivers side hooker longtubes currently. I took the heads off, that little spark plug wire rail and steering linkage. When I try to put them in it his the motor mount and something against the transmission. I hear other people getting their hooker lts in from the top but they all have a4's. Is it possibly with an m6?

Just jack your car up a bit and go through the bottom....they'll go right in.

Also, do I need to remove the oil filter?

He's having problems with the drivers side...not the passenger.

And Rodrigues, you don't need to remove the oil filter. Just be patient and angle it in there.

I put mine in from the top, although it requires a little patience as mentioned above. I had to remove the steering linkage, motor mount and oil filter. My main worry was scratching the coating off the headers.

You said exactly what I was fearing, the motormount. Its not hitting the engine, but the mount itself. It sounds like its a lot easier to get the headers in from the bottom but I am scared of jacking my car up that high!

A bunch of jackstands and stuff under the tires and you would be fine.

Every set of Longtubes I have installed on M6 cars I have just pulled out the motormount bolt and jacked up the motor a little on one side, put the hedder in and then put the bolt back in and then the other side the same way.

No problems at all. Really simple process. Makes it much easier.

On the driver's side just take out the steering linkage and they slide right in from the bottom in like 2 minutes. Driver's side is cake, passenger side is a *****, but they have to go in from the top on that side.

Hell I didn't even have my car that high up to get it in from the bottom....

Yeah...luckly enough enough the A4 LT1's you can just slide the Longtubes in from the top. They almost put them selves in.

You don't have to go in from the top...I put both LT's in from the bottom on my friends Z28 A4...and I only have it on jackstands!

Some cars you do, some cars you don't apparently. I've tried on 3 different cars (A4 and M6) to get them in from the bottom. Didn't happen. We'd just remove the motor mount bolt on the pass. side, jack the motor up a bit, and they slide right in. I removed the valve cover on the pass. side to get mine in clearance was so tight.
