lt1 rebuild

well the lt1 in my 95 z28 just took to burning oil. so a rebuild is needed. did , cam, headers, cai, exhaust, about a yr ago. normally i would take this on as a weekend project but... dont have the time nor tools right now. so my question is what is a good guesstimation at what a shop would charge to pull and rebuild my motor and reinstall it. or what have any of you paid for one? thanks in advance

I'm not sure about the cost of a rebuild but I've had guys here in AZ quote $600 to $800 for the engine swap.

I'm curious, how many miles are on your engine and is it smoking?

Thanks

Tom

Machine work on my block was about $600...now that was to bore over, torque-plate hone, vat, install new cam bearings and freeze plugs, and the align bore and align hone for my splayed 4-bolt main caps, and tap the bolt holes. But that was just the machine work on the block for my rebuild. Total I'm close to $4000...and I'm doing all the work myself.

However, I'm goin' with a lot of expensive parts I didn't hafta use either. If you're wanting a stock rebuild you won't be out too much. I figure why have the motor out just to put a stock one back in though.

Here in NY it;s about:

$2k for bottom end rebuild (355). About $1600 to pull motor & reinstall.

Figure another $700 to rebuild your heads.

if you just want a basic rebuild you might try the Summit kit.
With forged pistons it's $539. I've never heard from anyone who has used it.

I think $500-600 is about right for machine work
usually about $500 to assemble the engine

Is there anyone out there that has used the Summit rebuild kit, with forged parts. That's what I'm looking to do and that would save a little money
