Replace rear main-soak in oil?

The factory service manual states when replacing the rear main seal to soak the entire seal in oil before installing.

Anbody use this method?

I have the rear main seal housing removed from the block and am ready to install the new seal and put the oil pan back on with new gasket.

All started with replacing clutch

It says coat the seal in oil. I assume that is to make it slide in easier. IIRC mine had some lubricant already on the inside crank contact surface. I didn't use any oil on it and had no trouble installing it (and it doesn't leak).

I did about the same(about 2 weeks ago when I changed clutch disks). I did put a light coat on the inside lip. I installed it with the outside dry.
