belt snapped
belt snapped
So driving down the road i tried to turn on the ac and herd a grinding and squeaking noise. So i figured it was the ac compressor. I turn it off and the noise goes away. So i figured i should be fine just as long as i dont use the ac. So i jump on the free way and here a huge noise coming from under the hood and i lost power steering, voltage, and started running real rough.
I puttered all the way home and looked under the hood and the serpentine belt is gone. The car is running like absolute crap and there is a slight knock. Could this all be related and what would cause the belt to just snap like that it hasnt been replaced for a while but i just recently inspected it and it seemed fine.
What should i do im going to change the serpentine belt but what could cause all of the other problems

When the belt is missing you will lose power steering and voltage. If there isn't ample voltage for the ignition system you will have a weak spark which can cause a miss.
Just put a new belt on. That's the next logical step.

Im going to put a new one in but i just think that if the ac compressor pulley is frozen that it will just snap it again. I have never herd of the ac pulley freezing without the clutch being engaged have you guys.
The pulley on the AC compressor should spin freely when it isn't engaged. If it doesn't (or doesn't spin when it IS engaged) then you're going to have to pull the compressor and see what's going on.
Idk how it happened but when the serpentine belt snapped it bent the alternator pulley to the point were it was facing down and broke the tensioner in 4 places. Anyone ever here anything like that before?
Maybe the tensioner breaking is what caused the loss of the belt? As for the alternator pulley, I have no clue how that would happen. You mean the pulley itself was literally facing down? If that's the case then I think there's more to this. Something would have had to hit that pulley extremely hard to do that.
well it was it was pretty close to all the way down nothing i don't think anything hit it unless i ran something over that hit and broke the tensioner and flew up and hit the alternator. But that would be something really once in million chance there is no damage accept for those three things except when the belt snapped it sliced one of the plug wires so now its running like crap
Try and turn the AC compressor by hand. The pulley should spin freely but there should be some resistance to the inner clutch when you try and spin that.
If the AC suddenly locked up at speed I could see it damaging other stuff since the belts are pretty tough. I could absolutely see it breaking the tensioner, the alternator sounds a bit odd though.
