Waterpump seals-need clarification
Waterpump seals-need clarification
Alright, I am putting on a new waterpump after an opti install.
I am seeking clarification in regards to some very small o-rings that look as if they fit on the output shaft of the engine (that drives the WP) and inside the coupler. Then another o-ring on the input shaft of the WP and coupler. The coupler actually slips over these o-rings according to a drawing I found somewhere on this site. These o-rings did not come with the WP, had to get them from a GM dealer.
Could somebody clarify if this is correct? I do not see what purpose they would serve as far as sealing anything. I have some pics posted in my album. Hopefully you can view them, this is my first shot at the pics thing.
I had the previous WP fail after about 200 miles recently (a shop installed it) so I want to make sure I get this correct with all necessary seals.
I did not remove the timing chain cover for this project or mess with any of those seals. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

No, it's the timing cover seal that the pen cap "tool" is used for. The o-rings are to keep the spline connection clean. A little dab of grease in there is a good thing, too.
