Firestone Wide Ovals, or General Exclaim UHP?

Both have very similar reviews on tirerack.com and was wondering if anyone has had experience with either, or hopefully both of these tires. My tire size is 275/40-17's in the 9" ZR1 SS wheels.

I don't want to spend the money like I did last time for the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. They were great, but I don't want to spend $230 a tire.

The Generals are $480 for four, and the Wide Ovals are $640 (plus a $50 Home Depot rebate when you buy four).

Any opinions?

I have had the wide ovals on my Z06 wheels for a few months now. They seem to have good traction, low road noise but I haven't tested them in wet weather. I had the same feelings you do ~ $230+ per tire is just too much.

Thanks guys, I'm leaning towards the wide ovals. I wish someone had the Generals in the 275/40-17 size for some feedback. On tirerack, they get very similar reviews as the wide ovals.

I had the tires that were before the wide ovals...I had 275/40/17 Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP's and I just changed over to 275/35/18 General Exclaim UHP's. I've been VERY happy with both tires. The Firestones do tend to run a little narrower I've found when comparing widths, but they handle and ride well. My car sits for weeks at a time and I've found that BOTH will flat spot and it take 5-10 miles of driving to get rid of it. I'm also very happy with my General Exclaims. They're very quiet, hook, ride, and handle well too. If they had been available when I bought my Firestones, it would have been a tough decision then too. I've had both and can recommend both and the General's being less expensive makes them hard to pass up too.

figured id comment on the wide ovals.. picked up a set for the rear last week and they seem to hook pretty decent considering the 4.10s though my car doesnt make too much power. Was going to put the wide ovals on the front if they were **** and buy drag radials for the rear but im pretty happy with them so theyll stay on the rear for now.

I have the Wide Ovals. Great traction. But they howl on cement roads above 65mph.
