Another Timing chain thread - CLO-9-3153A

I have searched around this forum for quit some time, and am still semi baffled as to why no one has run this timing chain, or posted about it.

CLO-9-3153A

if i am missing something huge please let me know before i purchase this set.

here is what it will be going in, again, please let me know from your experience if this chain will perform well / not work at all with this setup.

a brand new bottom up build with the following:

springs: cc 987 (beehive)
cam: cc503
heads: le2 ported
bottom end: 383 Forged crank, rods, pistons.

i have an electric water pump, and i DO want to keep my crank sensor, hence the single roller. i already have a double roller that i decided i am not going to use b/c of the crank sensor issue.

...because the hex-a-just is wasted (of no real benefit) on an LT1 and it won't work with the stock water pump.

ok, im guessing it wont work due to the physical housing size? thx for the quick reply. now the second choice in single roller is this.

9-3157
i have seen many members run this but i just want to be sure that this set
would be sufficient for the power the 383 would generate?

also this is a 9 position set correct?
4 +/- on the crank
and
2 +/- on the cam

The 3157 is viable as a single roller and people have used it with their EWPs.

Thats what is in my motor but I'm not running the opti and I have a electric waterpump. My spring pressure is 660-680 open which is way more then what your running.

well, i havent had a stock pump in over a year, im just wondering pretty much which single roller timing set would be adequate for my aplication. im confident the 3157 will work with my setup, im just asking if there are timing set i am overlooking.

I have also done a little bit of searching around on this topic (timing sets), and I can't figure out why everyone is still wanting to find the "next new thing" for nothing more than a mild to intermediate build. I can understand for some of the extreme solid roller/ race only builds, but come on now. I am not meaning this to flame anyone or start an arguement, but what is it about the LT1 / LT4 extreme duty set that is so bad ? I am in no way an expert on this, but it just seems to me that if it's not broke (or breaking), don't fix it. I just find it kind of amusing when I see a lot this "because everyone else is doing it" mentality. But hey, to each his own, i guess.
Good luck with your decision.

If you are already running an EWP (like the OP is doing), there is no reason to buy the expensive LT4ED set.

which is why i started this timing chain hunt in the first place. i know i can run the LT4ED. but i chose the elec WP a while ago because i knew i would be using it in a new engine build up., and i wanted to use a SBC timing chain set, and pretty much confirmed in this thread is that the Cloyes 9-3157 would be an appropriate chain to go with.

Also, the 3153A that you posted in the 1st post is for an LS1 Gen 3 style motor just in case someone else thinks about getting one for their LT1.

for what its worth a gear drive is another option... make sure you get the hyd roller versions!
not many people do this! mostly due to the knock sensor "thinking" the gear drive is creating knock. I have my sensor de-tuned so as to not pick up the false knock from the gear drive.
