What is this?

These pieces (dime is to show size) were found attached to the drain plug in an LT1. There was absolutely nothing else on the plug and they seem to be completely intact, just bent up. Any idea what they might be?

Thanks!

that would not be a wrist pin. the wrist pins are much bigger and are pressed in to the rods. They are also 2 big to be a staple. My dad says It looks to be the retailner to ur valve stem seals. to check ur going to have to pull all ur springs and see if any of them are missing.

I agree with valve seal retainers.

I looked up a pic of a valve seal retainer & you are correct. This has to be what they are. Not sure how/why they came out but at least we know what it is now.

Thanks!

Maybe not installed far enough? Better see how many others are missing, and get some new seals on there...

Have the valve stem seals been replaced? When you remove the seals, the steel bands do not come off???? Not to mention being dropped down in the oil pan. If that occured, that was some sloppy work.

Possibly the lift at the valve was too-much and smashed the seals. Which in-turn caused the steel bands to come off. Ouch! Pull your valve-covers and see if you have other pieces laying under there.
