back fire problems help!

last night i finally got the car running, but it backfires like crazy at idle. off idle it cleans up and past 2500 rpm its not noticeable but at idle its bad. im not getting any codes. as far as i can tell the opti was indexed correctly. it went back together way to easy to be off there. my only other options that i can think of are that the plug wires on the left bank could be wrong. i went through the right bank 3 times so i know those are right. or that when i did the timing chain that its a tooth off or that i screwed up my opti. other than that im at a loss. if photo bucket can host quick time videos i may be able to take a video of it and post it if that would help. also no mods were done during any of this and the heads were never off and cam never taken out.

Give more details on what you did when you say "finally got the car running"

Did you have to adjust the rockers?

removed the engine and resealed it, new oil pan gasket, new timing gaskets, rear main etc. never took the heads off, never touched the rockers, did a clutch, all new fluids. engine fired on the first try but was back firing like a mother. anyways i got to hit it with a scanner and found that the right bank had long term fuel trim of like 196 and 125 was supposed to be nominal. further investigation showed that the injectors for cylinders 2,4 and 6 were not firing or getting signal. i also found where one of the previous owners (im the 5th) had taped 3 wires together along with the braided ground wire. messing with this got a small amount of voltage to the injectors. ill mess with it more in the morning and hopefully get this figured out.

problem solved. turns out a big problem (the backfiring) led me to find the smaller problem of the wiring harness. made new connections for the hacked up parts of the harness and got good signal to the injectors and backfiring got worse. turned out i messed up the plug wires on the right bank. so now its all back together and runs like a champ again. have a few small bugs to work out though. but those will be handled in good time.
