You have to change out the valvetrain. The stock pieces won't work with any cam upgrade.

Post your goals and your budget and we will be able to help you a little better.

+1 on the valvetrain. Nothing stock will work with any performance cam. Look at the hotcam even, theres a reason why it comes as a kit.

You will also need headers to get any good gains from a cam. Unless it really small, but then whats the point of spending the money for the small hp gain??

hes got slp headers listed in his sig, but yea plus one on the valvetrain. The stock springs barely cut it with the stock cam. But if your getting a cam swap done why not do it right with rockers and springs

If you're only budget is $300 for a cam, you should do a valvetrain upgrade and 1.6 RR instead. That way, when you save up more money for a cam again, you'll already have the valvetrain to support it. It will be a much easier swap then, too.

1.6 RR, springs and hardened pushrods will get you about 10rwhp

What are you running now? You should be in the 13's already. Do you have an auto or M6?

The flowmaster could be hurting you. A cutout may help at the track.

save up some more money and get some better springs and some 1.6 rockers. the stock valvetrain will go BOOM with any aftermarket cam. what kind of cam you going with. any specs on it?

What's your location? Stock these cars have run 14.1, but it could be different depending on your elevation and weather conditions.

Some gears would help you out a lot, just have to learn to launch better with them. That was always the biggest problem I had. Then I just got some DR's.

Depending on what lift cam and supporting mods you get....at a minimum you will need to check the valve springs for binding.

No point in checking the stock springs, they won't work with anything other than a stock cam. If you try, you are just asking for trouble.

With a cam swap, your going to need a tune. That meens more money. If you are wanting more power, save up the money and do it right. If you don't, you could risk droping a valve and destroying the motor. If mid 13's is all you want, a gear swap will get you there easier and cheaper.
