i was doing my header install and found that the second bolt closest to the fire wall was brock off in my head about an 1/8th inch into the head on the drivers side. i guess im going to have to drill it out. is my only option to drop the engine to do it. i dont want to pull the head. if i drop it would i have to completly take the engine and k member out and roll it out away from the car or wound droping it just a little bit be good enough to get to it. I am also going to be swapping out my coil overs also, just to through that in there. any advise or suggestions?

 

If you want to properly drill out the bolt then your best bet is to pull the head. If it's on the drivers side you may be able to get a right angle drill in there? I dunno...

 

if i pull the head i would like to send it off for head work but i dont have the money for that right now and i also need to get my car back on the road as cheap and fast as possible

 

you could drill it with one of those angle drills but it's in a pretty bad location. It will suck but you can do it and get it out with and easy out. If it doesn't work just leave that bolt out and it will probably still seal up.

 

If it seals the exhaust at that point without a bolt you will indeed be fortunate. It may work for some people but that would be an instant leak in my world. Fix it right at the outset so that you don't have to go back and take things apart again.

 

If you where taking out the stock manifolds, they use the very last bolt hole, not the second to the last as you have described. Your headers will not use this bolt hole so dont even worry about it, leave it bc the headers use the inside hole.

 

i say second but its actually the second header bolt, 3rd hole on the head. i think i may have enough room do drill so im gonna try it. wish me luck

 

Good luck then, and if you get it drilled properly the old bolt will be really tight since they had locktite on them and yours has been in there for 14 years. Anyway, make sure it is centered and perfectly straight if you want a fighting chance and not ruin it so badly that you can't then take it out and fix it.

 

lol like i just did... i broke the ease out. but i sure did drill perfectly center. well i havent been this pissed in awhile... well on the bright side ill be buying LE heads!!!
