Removed Stock Elbow, What is this?

I took off my stock elbow to check out my throttle body, and I was just confused when I saw this.

That seems like it would just heat up and force hot air into the intake.

it for an air silencer. it is to reduce the noise. it is like home plate on the caprices. it hurts no power but it in the way.

I'm thinking of removing, what are the pro's and con's?

I've heard of plugging the hole with a shampoo bottle cap, what have other people used?

A shampoo bottle cap will work just fine. I had some thick fiberglass and made a plug. Pro's - easier to work on your engine in the future. Con's - maybe more noise from air flowing through your elbow (not even noticeable though). Matter fact the 1LE elbow doesn't have a cutout for the silencer.

Ditch the "donkey dong". It just gets in the way.

I used a deodorant cap and a hose clamp. Ended up replacing it later on with the 1LE elbow. It does increase intake sound, but if you have a CAI that little bit doesn't really matter. Opens up some room too (always welcome on the F-body engine bay).

I've seen duct tape in elbows get sucked into the TB and stick the blades open. Be careful with that... especially as it gets brittle over the years from the heat.

Thunder Racing has a couple of resonator delete plugs as well that will take the place of that. Other option would be to go with an aftermarket elbow such as the Trickflow or 1LE.

I can't help to chuckle every time I see a picture of one of those. It definitely has a suitable nickname.
