Absolutely, this is the one thing the LT4 springs are good for and they are cheap.

Ditto on the LT4 springs. Great value and will also serve you well if
you choose to put in 1.6 rockers while you are at it.

Spring are a good starting place. You'll need them when you put a new cam in, and go with 1.6 roller rockers if you can. If you can afford, do a set of NSA 1.6's, and guide plates. This will set you up for the future. Also keep in mind, the stock LT1 cam is kinda wimpy and doesn't pull too well above 5k anyways. With full bolt on's my car didn't pull very well at 5k either.

I agree, the Lt4 springs and 1.6 RR are a good upgrade and make the car work better. And now I'm ready for the Hot Cam in the spring.

Just to be clear IMO the LT4 springs are a bad choice with the HOT cam, they are a perfect choice for a stock cam with 1.6 rockers though.

no, gm did not make a mistake.
the lt4 head came with sodium filled valves creating a lightweight valve, the lt1 has regular weight valves thus causing the valvetrain to be heavier so you will benefit from a stronger spring, hell even the lt4 head should have more seat pressure like in the 120-130 lb. range.
the lt4 2.00 1.56 GM valves are 40.00 ea.
if you do the lt4 cam or similar i suggest the 918 comp spring kit,it is lighter and way stronger than the lt4 spring.save the aggrivation and get NSA 1.6s,gm plates and hard pushrods SA rockers tend to be noisy.
