oil pump question
oil pump question
help please......im puting a new oil pump in my lt1 the oil pump and the pickup(screen) came seperate, my ? is would I be better off just getting another one that comes already connected, if they even come like that, or can someone tell me how to connect them?
They are 2 pieces no matter how you buy them. The tube should be tapped into the pump, it may take a light tap with a plastic hammer, or use a block of wood and a regular steel hammer..but tap lightly, its a press fit.
Once the tube in on the pump, it should be able to rotate a bit with some force by hand.
Install the pump/tube with the tube pulled down.
Test fit the oil pan, pressing up firmly until it is snugg to the bottom of the block with no gasket on it...this will make the pickup be at the very bottom of the pan. Test fitting the pan with no gasket will leave just enough room for slight clearence on the bottom of the pan.
Then remove the pan and remove the oil pump being careful not to bump it...
Then spot weld the tube to the pump housing to "secure" it to make sure it will not come out... Some do not do this, and there have been instances where the tube came out and ruined motors from starving them of oil.
Once spot welded, install everything "for real" this time.
