can't get the harmonic balancer!!!

it isnt a stock one, my engine builder through it on and ive never seen this style before, it doesnt use three bolts like the OE style but just the middle bolt. It looks like the balancer goes all the way into the timing chain cover. Any one deal with something like this?

Are you trying to remove the balancer part or the entire balancer/hub?

I didn't see the year of your car in the sig. The hub is attached by a single bolt to the crank. If it is a 94 or 95, you have to screw a longer bolt into the crank and push on the bolt to get it out. The hub will be a one piece unit that covers the crank with a hole in it the size of the bolt only (not a really big washer as on standard chevy units). Just putting a puller on the hub and pressing on the crank will cause you to break the puller because you will be pushing the hub against the crank and pulling on the autside of the damper as well.

It's hard to describe in words, search on the thread and someone will have pictures of what needs to be done. They just went through it back in April/May in this same forum.

I don't know what balancer you have, but all I've seen have some holes threaded or not threaded around the perimeter of the center tube. I would be leery of pulling on the outside of it unless its solid. BTW there should be a thick washer under the bolt head in center be sure its out, you need the space when pulling, when you use longer bolt to pull be sure its screwed in at least 3/4". Lotsa luck. That's the one. Put a longer one in to push against.

Some people pull the bolt out a short amount and push on it then pull it out a little farther and push again.

I wouldn't do that, you could push the bolt in and ruin the threads on the crank. Big pain in the ***.

Take your center bolt to hdwe, store get 3' long hardened bolt to match the size and threads on your bolt. The hard bolt is stiffer and has truer threads, that will help protect your crank threads. Danny Mc
