Whislte under the timing cover???

I need help for a problem i ve been tracking down for the 3 last months.A lot of people helped me and i finally found where it was coming from.So im now starting this thread to solve this last trouble.

My engine(New lt4 crate motor, last one) got a whistle sound coming from the front of the engine since the first start, right now it got 140miles only.

I ve change everything around and the whistle never go away.So today ive bought i mechanic stethoscope and search thru all the engine.

I ve check:water pump/tb/iac housing/intake and no strange sound.

When i check the timing cover i could clearly hear the whistle sound. So its coming from underneath the timing cover wich point to the timing chain?

By he way its a whistle sound no a grinding/shaving sound.

What should i do?
What could make the timing chain to whistle?
Can i run the car or its a no no ?

Thanks

I keep telling myself that it cant be the timing chain since its a whistle sound that i hear and not a grinding sound like metal on metal.

But what could whistle under the timing cover ???

It might be the bearing on the waterpump driveshaft. That's the first thing that comes to mind.

Thats exactly what i first thought about it(a lot of my firend to) and since everything seems to run perfectly and that the motor only got 140miles.

I would think that it's the timing chain making a bit louder than normal noise.

I have a question though. How could that motor be "brand new"? Did'nt they stop making LT4 crate motors about 10 years ago?

Your motor has been in storage for quite a long time so there could be a lot of "cobwebs".

New doesn't always mean good. I have taken bearings brand new out of the box and, they have been bad. It's called poor quality control. I am not saying it is the bearing. I am pointing out that it could be the bearing. Why ask for ideas and then discount them? Good luck finding your problem.

No no im sorry if you take it that way

My simple mind told me to just let it run like that but my logic one told me to ask question because this whistle is not normal.

I ve just came back from a small ride and in my opinion its way too loud to be normal and i dont think that i wanna wait to see if this is just some kind of break in or if this is a bad bearing/chain alignment that would lead to a major engine break.

When i fist saw it at Pace i told myself the exact same thing...

But when i talk to Mark(tech guy at Pace) he clearly told me that it was a brand new motor and not somekind of remanufacture one.

Ans sorry but whats"cobwebs" mean?

I fugure that motor is New-Old-Stock (NOS).

Cobwebs means rusty and dusty inside. Hopefully it's not like that.
