Need some help-'95 Z28

Alright, so having my first issues with the '95 Z28 and want to fix it before it becomes a problem. This car is bone stock, 6spd, with 132k miles on it. Lately I've been having an issue when starting the car. It started about two weeks ago. It will crank, but it won't turn over, then when I try again it turns over without a problem. However, the past two days I've noticed that it will now occassionally idle around 2k RPM's on start up for a few minutes and then drop back down to normal and when it does start up and doesn't surge, it's a pretty weak start up, like it's barely turning over, but then it's fine. So, any clues as to what the problem may be? I was thinking opti or starter, but I really don't know much about LT1's yet and before I start tearing into it, I want to get other opinions.
Thanks,
Brian

Is it turning over really slowly before it actually starts up? That could be battery, alternator or starter.

It could be your ICM or opti as well. You really should get it just scanned.

you need to explain this better, i am confused, is it cranking slowly, or cranking but not starting

if cranking but not starting, then starting and idleing high it could be a iac possibly

it cranks but won't start the first time I turn the key, but cranks and starts the second time. A few times now it's cranked and started the second time and idled around 2k RPM's and most of the time on the second try it's cranked slow and started. The only time it starts on the first crank is if it was running and I shut it off and then start up again within 20-30 minutes. I'm used to mustangs, but never had anything like this with them, that's why I was thinking the opti or starter maybe.

If it was the starter, I would think that it would just turn the motor over very slowly or not at all. It could have a bad ground, causing it to draw extra amps, but that usually wouldn't start on the second time. I'd look more closely at the ignition side (ICM, coil, wires, plugs). You can also check your fuel pressure just in case.

Its your fuel pump check valve sticking...time for a new pump.Turn the key to on 2-3 times, then crank it...If it starts,I can guarantee its the pump..Idk what the others are talking about.

I talked to my brother in law who's a mechanic and he's thinking fuel pump or clogged fuel filter as well so next weekend when I have a chance I'm gonna take a look and see what's going on. I also noticed my gas mileage has dropped off a bit. Odd thing is, the last two days have been very hot and the car has started on the first crank everytime without a problem except for lastnight later in the evening when it cooled down. Let you guys know when I find out what it is and thanks for the help, very much appreciated.

Replace your fuel filter if you havent in the last while. Its probably the fuel pump check valve by the sounds of it. basically you'll have to replace the fuel pump.
