Need help -- REMOVE AIR PUMP ON 94 Z28?

Okay heres the deal. I have a 94 z28 m6. My opti-spark recently went out on me. So today I started to remove everything to replace the opti - I was wondering if I could just compeltey remove the air pump?? I have shorty headers on the car already. There was a rubber hose coming off the air pump that was not going to anything every since I had my headers installed. So I really dont think I would need it. Can I just remove the air-pump and that's it or do I have to bypass something???

If you do not have to pass a visual emissions inspection, just remove it. I am not sure if a 94 will cause the check engine light to come or not. I removed mine, but had it turned off in the tune at the same time.

A '94 will not perform an AIR system "test" like OBD2 does so you can just remove the pump and plumbing (plugging the holes of course). The PCM will however check the electrical side up to the relay.

In other words, just unplugging it will not set a code or light the SES. If you yank the fuse you'd have problems though.

On the brighter side, you can use the AIR electrical system to run an electric waterpump
