CM612 Springs with LE2?

Humm... just got a set of reworked LE heads from a friend. these heads would be equal to a LE 1.8 (ported before packages were out) they came with comp 3/8" 1.6 SA rr's with brand new ARP studs, and a set of CM612 springs, would the LE2 cam be stressing this combo to much for a DD? should i be thiking about a LE1.5 cam instead? any input would be appreciated!

Ask Lloyd! All of his cams need the recommended valvetrain parts for which they were designed. Some of your parts might need changing. Lloyd can point you in the right direction.

I have run them on a 306 and an 847, would I do it again? No.

Running them on my baby cam this time around though.

I broke one of those valvesprings with .545/.555 lift on a 230/236 XE comp cam, I definitly would never use those springs again. I was restarting the motor and it snapped the valvespring right in 2. In other words, I would never use those springs again, and I haven't even seen them for sale in months/years.

Lloyd used to use the 612's on all his LE1 heads/cam kits a while back. He doesn't recommend running them on anything bigger than .550 lift, 224 duration and more than 6200 RPM. However I have the exact cam that 96LT1TX has and I've been running the 612's for 2 1/2 years now without problems (fingers crossed)... I guess it's a hit or miss type of thing, but either way they will be coming out soon.

That said, assuming you already have the LE2 cam, I would run a better spring instead of downgrading your cam choice to accomodate a weaker spring just because it's what's installed on your heads now... Do it right the first time.

If your still figuring out your heads/cam combo, and end up getting a LE1 type cam, just so you know, he runs the crane dual valvesprings on his LE1 heads now (crane #10308) he told me those were good for up to 580-590 lift cams and much more RPM than the 612's.

Your best bet is to get your cam choice figured out and speak to Lloyd like OldSStroker said.

I would also look at the beehive springs. I have the comp cams beehives (26918s) but everyone has been hating on them lately. There is a PAC valvespring built to same specs as this, and I believe it should be good to around ~600 lift (I hope, because I am running more lift) and good for the rpms easily. I am set up for about a 6700rpm rev limiter, but then again I have only had the springs on for a few thousand miles. Check out the PACs though, there was a group purchase in the group purchase forum for them a few weeks ago, that will tell you where to get them and how much they usually are.

Yep you need Beehives, Retainers, Locks and Spring Locators to go wit the cam. Might as well get a new set of FelPro Viton Seals from the local parts store as well.
