I have the SLP Loudmouth, original one. It is flowing through a 3" ypipe without cats, and a set of jet hot long tube headers. It was cool and everything for awhile, but after awhile it started to sound terrible and like a tractor trailer with all the poping and stuff. I sounded even more horrible with my 383....mind u its cheap, flows good, and served me well since 2002ish.

I have my new true exhaust waiting for me, it consists of the original long tube headers, 3" piping out of the collector, to a 3" H-pipe, and then to (2) 3" outlet/inlet 16" long Dynomax Bullets. Should sound sweet, I was going to do an x-pipe rather then h-pipe but with the spohn adj torque arm w/ front mounted ds loop there is no way i am going to have any clearence. Plus at the end of the day, its kinda nice, being able to drop the h-pipe quickly and then work on everything

I run slp dual cat shorties ( flame suit ) with 1 3/4 primaries, ory into a 3" in pipe into the slp 2otl. sounds really good and hopefully see some results at the track as well.

What are the advantages of stepped headers? Are they only for engines that have been modified to a certain point?

I don't know if there is any real advantage right now with my current setup, but I got them because eventually I will be doing some type of big motor setup with big heads and cam and wanted the best flowing exhaust system out there. Trying not to buy things twice.
