Has anybody ever had an LT1 water pump that didn't have the mating surfaces machined?

A guy sent me a brand new water pump to polish. After pulling the front cover and thermostat housing off of it, I notice that both mating surfaces are still rough cast. The rear block mating flanges are rough cast as well.

This is the 5th LT1 water pump that I've had in my possession, and all of the previous four were machined. Just curious if anyone has had a water pump that was like this? Did you have any leakage issues with it?

Thanks in advance.

I've always used OEM GM LT water pumps and they all had the mating surfaces machined. Is this one a GM pump?

Sounds like a China part.

Yup, I picked up a cheap WP a while back and none of the mating surfaces were machined at all. It sealed up and works just fine, had it for 5 years now.

Thankyou. Yes this pump has the official GM part number on the left front side, but when comparing it to a "genuine" GM pump, I noticed that the little square shaped projection on the right front side that normally has "GM in raised letters doesn't have the letters there. So yes, probably an overseas part.

I just wanted to ask up front to avoid doing all the work and charging this guy for something that will end up being a nice shiny paper weight.

Thanks again.
