So what else is required during a cam install. The car is a bolt on car, no internal mods really to speak of. Is the GM847 too much for an internally stock car? Do I need new rollers? Springs? etc?

your gonna get a lot of people who dont put the 847 cam in a stock bottom end motor. I know i did. Your gonna need a whole new valvetrain INCLUDING lifters (trust me i just did this swap!). A tune from someone ( i recomend madz28.com)
And you MUST drop the oil pan to get the timming cover off without messing up the pan gasket (trust me or youll be buying a $30 pan gasket and hours worth of extra work). If you want more info PM me and ill help you out. In the meantime read my thread on this, lots of good info.............

Ok what cam would the cam gods suggest for a stock bottom end car? I just realized the rpm specs for those two cams. Maybe a CC305?

The 847 is a very similar cam to the GTP6 I have now in my stock bottom end, and with an A4 I think it was a very bad decision, not to mention you'll have to spin it to 6800 or more to make good power which is too much for the stock bottom to do on a regular basis and not enough power in the lower rpms where you use it on the street everyday. A cam that brings the power band back down would be better suited IMO.

I'd recommend new rr, valve springs will be a must with that kind of lift, and a good new set of lifters while its all apart.
New timing set, and new oil pump while the pan is off if it has alot of miles on it already.

The 305 or the 466 (268XFI) that Comp makes looks like a good chioce also, I wouldn't go over 230 duration with an A4 now knowing how the 236/242 runs with an A4 and I've had the stock convertor, a 2200, 2400, and 3k stalls in it and didn't like how any of them felt with it, its just doggy at cruise speeds and anything under 2500 rpms.
Can't comment on personal experience yet with any of the other cams as I have yet to swap it out..I've got a BRE1.5 sitting on the bench to install when it cools down some here.

Let's not forget my favorite, the CC503.

The CC305 or CC503 would both be good grinds. A higher stall converter and different gearing would still benefit the overall setup though.

i got a 3200 stall and 3.73 gears with my 847 and its badass. Everyone has there own opinion on how they want there car to "feel". Personially i like my cam but then again its not my DD so it doesnt bother me at all. But i do hear a lot about the 503 cam making good power on the low end. Eaither way you go youll need a new valvetrain, lifters, pushrods, timing chain, and a EWP if you got the cash IMO. And just be REAL! carfull when you pull the water pump. Make sure you get everything you can out of the radiator and block and put a bunch of rags by the opti so you dont get it wet. And if i remember corectly, the lower right side bolt of the water pump threads into a water jacket so youll get a lot of antifreeze when you pull it out so be carfull.
