H/C vs. Cam only... thoughts?

So my original plans were to send my heads to Lloyd to get reworked over winter, but I am finding myself impatient and I do not want the car down for a month+ if I tear it apart now. I figured getting myself a cam would probably be for the best right now, as I can have it apart and back together in a weekend or two.

Just curious, as to what I would be losing by just doing a cam vs waiting and doing the h/c package I had originally planned. Btw, my cam of choice was probably going to be a 503 or cc306 if I were to do a cam only. I want the car to remain very streetable as I love to cruise it around.

Thanks in advance for any input guys

You'll be leaving quite a bit of power on the table by leaving the heads untouched. Why the change of heart, are you worried about the downtime involved in sending the heads off for portwork? You could always buy a set of stock castings and send those off to Lloyd and then when you go to do the install, just sell off your existing heads.

If you want a set of stock castings to send off, let me know. I have the stock set that came off my 96 with 54k on them. I pulled them when I swapped heads and cam last month. The casting number is 10207643. I'll sellem for $150.00 less shipping.

You could also just do a gasket match on the heads by yourself. Its not too hard and you'll pick up some hp.

have to remember, h/c is gonna end up costing a lot more in uprgrades then cam only. You can get everything you need for cam only for about a grand, when putting down more hp with h/c most of the time ur gonna need new injectors, clutch, maybe even a rear etc.
