Stick with the stock PCV system is my opinion. If you're burning oil, then you probably have another problem that could only be enhanced by using an air filter.

If you have a stock, or near stock LT engine, yes the OEM PCV system should work just fine. However, if you're running a stroker LT engine and turning much higher RPMs (basically a race engine) I don't believe the stock PCV system is adequate "in all instances.” And that is evident when crankcase pressure starts pushing oil back up the fresh air tube into the throttle body.

I guess you should tell that to all the LS1, LS2, LS6 owners too. The stock PCV system on these cars SUCKS, anyone who tells you otherwise is oblivious to it.

I'm happy to see some of you other LT guru's agree with me on the PCV issue. Again, I don't think I'm completely wrong with the crankcase breathers on high-performance (race) LT engines.

Get an inline filter for that (Purolator makes one but can't remember the part # at the moment) and a catch can on the other side.

The filter will only treat the “symptoms of the problem” but I doesn’t “fix” the root cause of the problem. Again, the real problem as I see it is inadequate crankcase ventilation with the factory PCV system.

if your burning alot of oil you may want to checkout your valve seals

If it fixes the problem it fixes the problem. the "root" cause is that hes running a larger than stock engine, the proper fix is for him to destroke his engine and re-sleeve it so he gets back the stock bore and stroke then put back in the stock camshaft.

I believe you missed the point of this discussion completely. We’re specifically talking about the oil flow that is sometimes pushed-back through the fresh air intake tube to the throttle body from the driver’s side valve cover. That oil is then ingested directly into the intake.

He really didn't say what he's running other than what's in his sig.

So assuming it's a stock motor, simply the pcv system shouldn't cause it to burn oil.

I know about the LS motors, but that's a whole different story.

Only reason I know that everything else is fine is because i have no blue smoke out of the exhasut at all so it's not anything major....so i was thinking of putting a breather on the passenger sider vent...

Even stock motors burn oil with the pcv system, its a ****ty design that lets oil into the intake through the fresh air hose and PCV line.
