Big lt1 or ls1 swap

How hard is it to do the swap. I can not decide if i want to do the swap or build a bad lt1 motor.

I'm also interested in learning more about LS1 swaps into our cars. If anybody has a writeup or a tutorial of any kind that would be awesome!

LS1 swap = expensive.

Depends on your goals for the car. Tells us what you hope to achieve.

The easiest way to do the swap would be to find a wreckd car with everything there and buy that. Oterwise you will be nickeled and dimed to death.

I agree, you almost need a wrecked car considering you will need more then just the motor. Check out the Hybird forum on LS1tech.com They go over this topic very well.

What do you consider expensive? I swapped an ls1/t56, did full bolt ons, heads cam and nitrous into my 3rd gen. Building a big LT1 will cost just as much as swapping an ls1 IMO. I say it will be an equal swap cost wise. I personally love the ls1 combo but it boils down to how much work you want to invest, its easier to do the big lt1 into and already lt1 car. If you want to be different and are prepared for alittle more challenge do the lsx, you won't regret it.

I've always found it more impressive to stick with what motor came in the car and build that up. Otherwise you're just going to being keeping up with the latest and greatest thing that comes out next (ls1, ls2, ls3, ls6, ls9, bla bla bla). I'd rather play the underdog and savor the look on the newer car owners face when they get romped on by an old lt1.

Ill stick with the LT1. The LT1 sounds more meatier then a LS1.

Well in 2007 (when this thread was ) LS motor and tranny combos where around $3000-3500 but way cheaper now. So if I was doing it now yea I'd go LS.

you're seeing engine and tranny combos for less than 3500? I'm curious where, that would be a very easy thing to do now

Just build an LM7 and swap it just as you would an LS1, much more affordable. There are write-ups and very resourceful members, just look around.
