Think Twice when you hear tick tick

I was racing a new Evo with intake, chip and exhaust and we both were running at 55 mph we went on the 3 beep and we went he was neck to neck for about a second but the stock LT1 with 130,000 miles, K&N cold air, SLP loudmouth, and pretty sure stock Automatic not rebuilt, I beat him three times and I got my 20 bucks when we went back to Ruby Tuesday parking lot where I was the only American car and the kids there respect my car. But when I raced him my car was TICKIN!!! I thought it was the lifter and as the month went buy it got so loud you can hear it from a block away. I went to my friends shop he said he heard air he put his hand down there and said your sparkplug is loose. The head was stripped. The ticking was so loud that when you gased it more and more it was like a faulty lifter from an old truck it was so loud and very embarassing. Got a cold weld and now the car runs mint. LOL Just wondering did I ruin anything bec I was running on 7 cyc?

What is the cold weld you are referring to? Did you properly helicoil the bolt hole or did you goop some JB Weld in there?

properly installed helicoils will last a good long time. Especially if you use it for spark plugs since you don't have to change them often

i've had a ticking on my car as well lately, and when i give it gas it gets louder as the more gas i give it, to where you can clearly hear it over the exhaust. i recently put in my headers so i figured it was an exhaust leak somewhere, but at the same time we replaced 4 of the spark plugs....so i was wondering which, if not both, it could be. (and thats how loud the ticking is, i have a full exhaust with a loudmouth and i still hear it) gonna check the spark plugs later and see if thats the case. i've also heard that if they header gaskets aren't tight enough you'll hear the tick but it goes away after the car warms up, and mine doesn't go away at all.

Very easy for header bolts to back out after a few cycles, making sure they are tight is an easy first step in finding your problem.
