My heads will not fit???? Why?

I bought a bare block from someone local. The heads are off of a 1995 formula. Neither side will slide on the two pegs on the block? What could cause this? Did this dude sell me a trashed block? Is there a differance between a B body block and a F body block?
Please help.

B Body blocks ran cast iron heads. Don't know if that would make a difference or not.

What is the stamp on the block? You sure its an LT1? Heads bolt up the same regardless of B-Body or F-Body.

The heads will not just plop onto the block. You have to tap them on with a mallet.

Mine simply slid on as well, no mallet needed.

It's possible that the pins aren't straight or that the head(s) are warped.

The LT1 blocks are the same, I am using a B body block in my car. I don't think all B bodies had LT1s. Didn't some have gen 1 SBCs in them? I had to lightly tap one of my heads to get it to seat.

Mine have never just went on. There's no warping or any mess like that. Perhaps the dowel holes are off a thousandth...
Other engines I've pulled heads off of I've had to either pry off w/ a pry bar or had to wiggle the ever loving snot out of it to come off after the head gasket was no longer an issue. Some things aren't always a lovely perfect fit.

It's not uncommon for older blocks, especially one that have been rolled around, to have slightly bent or mashed alignment pins. The gaskets should be a good indictor for how bad they are. Only light tapping with a rubber mallet or some wiggling should be necessary to get the heads to seat. Any more and it's time for new pins. You should be able to see where the holes are hitting or if the pins are out of round. If you absolutely can not get the heads on the block then it's time to take "all" to your machinest and have them checked out.

Alright thanks for easing my mind guys. I was worried about it, but I plan to take everything to a machine shop and have the heads bolted to the short block. The bare block has 327 on the side, I know I have seen this on every LT1 I have ever been under. I cant wait to get this motor built and mate it to my CPT Pro Race 4L60E.
