Cam Opinions...

Well, I finally got around to ordering some more parts for my engine build. It wil be a single turbo T-88 383ci setup that will need to pass the sniffer. Here are some specs on the engine:

HPE 383
LE ported AFR210's
224/224 .573/.565 114lsa straight up
M6 Tranny
9" 3.55 Detroit Locker
blah
blah

I would like this setup to sound stock and still make peak power around 5600-5800rpm (shift around 6000-6200rpm). The main goal was to pass emissions. I am going to break the motor in N/A this summer before the turbo goes on and want to dyno the N/A setup before as well. I'm hoping for 370-380rwhp... even with 8.5:1 compression. What do you cam guys think as far as hp peak rpm? Are my expectations reasonable? Should pass the sniffer right with a good tune...

not really what your asking, how much PSI are you going to be running on that turbo?
Reason I ask is I am getting a procharger and am trying to figure what CR i will need to run 15-20psi

I want to know if my estimates on the peak HP rpms is correct, or do people think it will peak higher or lower. I plan on running 12-15psi on pump with methanol. My CR is 8.5:1.

Between HPE building your short block and Lloyd doing your heads you have two good places to ask about the cam.

What's the rest of your setup? What blower and pulley? 8.5:1 is pretty tame and should be fine.

I think Realquick's setup is a Turbo?
I think your about right to where the power should be on a N/A build, the thing will be nasty with boost.
What runner volume did he get the 210's to, 217??

Correct. The heads I think actually finished out at 213cfm. I think with the right tuning 800rwhp shouldnt be a problem... now traction is a another story

Since I need to pass the sniffer in MA, the cam can be mild ... and I'll let the turbo make all the power

Best eficiency for a 383ci with a T4 flanged turbo is the t88. The T76 would have done fine... but I am greedy

T-88 is pretty big. Wouldn't you benifit from a more effecient turbo rather then a T-88? Now I am not experianced in V8 Turbo setups so I maybe way off. It would take a lot before you spool and I am not sure what your application (ie. drag racing, top speed) is.

For a T4 flanged turbo, the T88 is the most efficient turbo available for 383ci engine (when looking at a compressor map and comparing air consumption versus boost). A smaller turbo will be less efficient, but provide faster spool up du to smaller wheel. A T76 would be fine, but I want to put down some numbes to compete with some local guys... show them an LT1 can make big power. This car is a steetcar... maybe hit the track once a year.

I too am new to v8 turbo setups but i have had quite a bit of experience with v6 turbo cars. at what rpm will 383 motor spool a t88? and is 12 - 15 psi in the power band of that turbo? i just ask because in my experience with smaller motors (i know that makes a big difference in spool and all) a t88 has to spin pretty high to hit full boost, and 15 psi would barely spin the compressor wheel. this is all on a 3.0L supra motor though so i have no idea how it would react on a much bigger 383. im nt saying your set up wont work or anything basically just trying to educate myself a bit. thanks.
