Oil pressure sensor off? Off the charts?!?!
Well, for some strange reason, I just picked up an lt1 camaro, and as I was checking it out and finally getting the motor to run, we started the car up, peeked a glance at my oil pressure and it was the max it could go...
way past 80 and everything.
And it didn't budge. This leads me to believe one of two things...
Something is SERIOUSLY wrong. The car was bought for 700 bux and could have any number of problems. Already does considering oil was discovered in the coolent. (although not the other way around if it could have anything to do with it)
Or more simply, the gauge is way off or busted.
I've heard of oil pressure sensors going bad and giving false readings, but what i've GENERALLY heard, I may just not remember correctly, is that when the gauges go bad, they USUALLY give you a pressure reading of 0 or the lowest the needle can go.
If the sensor was faulty, could it be that, or could it be something more serious. Not many things would surprise me after seeing this motor though
So throw any whack ideas out there so I can troubleshoot this problem.
p.s. if it makes any difference...which I doubt because losing oil would be contradictory, it leaks quite a bit of oil...

Sounds like your oil pressure sensor has lost it's ground. I had a broken wire in the back of my intake manifold and it pegged the oil pressure. I just spliced the wire back together and works perfect. Good lick.
lol...thanks for the lick?
seriously, thanks for the help. I'll post pictures, but you'll be amazed at the shady tree jobs you can find by some Miami mechanics. I saw ground wires ALL OVER THE CAR that as soon as I touched them...
The whole wire was in my hand...
Actually, as I was taking off the alternator to get to the valve covers, I managed to somehow rip off ALL the grounding for the alternator by touching the destoyed wire, and saw a butt connector right after it
That was before i was completely amazed that 5!!!! of the rocker arms were loose of the 8. 2 of which i almost could hand loosen the nut.
Maybe that's what gave me all my valvetrain noise.
Thanks for the quick response. Gotta get to lashing the rockers tomorrow. Gotta visit shoebox's website again now. hehe

I was about to say.. after my first cam install, we forgot to plug my oil pressure sender back in... oh man if you could have seen my face when I saw my oil pressure drive through the roof!
Quickly realized it was just unplugged
