For those running 96-97 SLP headers!

I have a couple questions for those of your running 96-97 SLP dual-cat headers.

Looking at the design of the headers, it seems that plug access would be really good. Did you route your wires the same as factory, or did you reroute them? How is plug access?

What y-pipe are you running? Are you running factory, Random Tech dual-cat, or a custom made peice?

Did you have to wrap the heater core hoses with high-temp wrap?

Did you reconnect the EGR stuff, or remove it? If you removed it, what did you do to plug up/remove the holes?

Thanks

97 SS Dual-Cat with SLP shorties.

Bought them uncoated to ensure that the egr tube was oriented for easy connect, i.e, bent correctly. It was off, so I had it cut and welded before I had the headers coated (know A good outfit, if interested).

Installed with felpro gaskets and ARP 1", 12pt header bolts to ensure some room between bolt head and primary tubes. Not sure how easy the plug access is, however plug access isn't that easy on any headers or stock manifold. Defer to experienced members to respond regarding clearance.

Had heater hose get burned. You must have a little room between hoses and headers, which at least requires the hoses to be zip tied away from headers.

I cured my problem by removing the short piece of rubber hose (must dremmel off the aluminum coupling) and replaced the short piece with special flexable metal heater hose----still rerouted the short piece behind the the other hoses and tied it back just to make sure I had some room in between the headers and hoses. Others have done similar mods.JMHO

And....used stock y pipe, since illegal to change position of the cats in Oregon. BTW, if you can get away with it you would probably get a few more ponies out of a good set of LTs----however it would require moving the cats, new y pipe etc.

i have them. i run the random tech dual cat y pipe. i dont run the air pump, but i do run the egr. i plugged the air fittings with AN caps. actually a couple of the plugs are a bitch to change, even when you pull the y pipe off. mine are uncoated, i did have to reroute the heater hose, but it hasnt been a problem. i didnt put any heat wrap around the hose.

I have them in my 96. Not coated, all emissions hooked up with stock cats and Y pipe. Plug access isnt that great but not bad if done from underneath. All wires are still in the stock location, no problems so far. I did buy a piece of insulation to separate the heater hose from the header, have not had to relocate any hoses. Have been in about a year so far. Used felpro gaskets and mr. gasket 1" long 6pt bolts with high temp loctite and no problems with loosening up.

Where's the cheapest place for the random tech y-pipe? And was it a direct bolt-on without needing any modifications?
