Catback Gains: 17HP - 42 ft/lbs TQ

I was cleaning my room today and found a long lost B&B Performance Catalog. I read some of it and my jaw dropped when I got to the F-body catback page. "The 1995 LT1 for example, reaches a peak increase of 17 HP and 42 ft/lbs TQ for power you can absolutely feel". They go on throughout the article speaking of using dynos for all their testing and even have a small graph showing HP gains.

Now part of me can stomach the 17rwhp, but 42 ft/lbs TQ? Is this some kind of inflation or a terribly uncontrolled outcome? I am sure the old school guys on this site have seen this in the past, but I just cant bring myself to even understand how thats possible. All I can conclude is they are either straight lying or didnt have all their variables accounted for.

Add a Granatelli MAF for another 25 RWHP or so and say hello to 12s. :blah:

Maybe but dang that is high, I don't think a cutout could give those kind of gains on a stock system. Then again it is flywheel HP.

Yea, I know, I dont necessarily believe what I am reading here, but I am wondering if anyone has heard this before. I figure someone with age on this site read this and its already been dicussed somewhere I cant find. If no one comes up with anything I am calling B&B today and asking them about it.

I am also not sure if its flywheel or rear wheel. The dyno they gave was rear and so are all the other numbers in the catalog.

If those are supposed to be RWHP numbers then that is a load.

www.ws6.com lists a 10.4 rwhp and 7.4 rwtq gain with a borla exhaust with medium plate over a stock exhaust. So i'd say those numbers are a tad inflated.

Maybe the previous exhaust was partially clogged with a banana and then they installed the new cat-back and bang, you got just as much horsepower as a set of headers could add.

Yea, I am figuring something was definately a miss with either the dyno car or the operator. I think I'll call here in a few minutes. Maybe they accidently dropped a torquey cam into the motor between runs

Hey, as long as the cam comes with the cat-back for the same price we are all good.

Give me a few weeks and I'll give you a documented answer. I had the 97 TA dyno'd a couple of months back. I just did a MAC header and an LS1 SLP Loudmouth install this past weekend. In the next few weeks I hope to get the car back for another dyno. While I did more than just a cat back system, it will give something to compare those numbers to.

Then I'll pull the PCM and send it back to Ion for a tune since he did the gear adjustment a few other things to the PCM last year.

Re: Catback Gains: 17HP - 42 ft/lbs TQ

I just called Mike a Tech from B&B and he said all our dyno tests are done on a rear wheel dyno and that those numbers are not typo's they are the documented number that a pre OBDII LT1 puts down with their catback. I explained that I have never seen such huge TQ numbers from just a catback to which he replied: Well its all 3" tubing and mandrel bent with a less retrictive muffler.

So there you have it a confirmed 17rwhp and 42rwtq from B&B

Now everyone go buy one!!

And just about every decent LT-1 catback on the market offers 3" tubing, mandrel-bent pipes, and a less restrictive number and they dont put up those numbers. Maybe this is a package deal, it includes the Tornado air cleaner system as well. I have my charge card in hand, gimme the number.

Order Now! Toll Free 888-228-7435 (Actual B&B Number) Ask for Mike

I've never seen the B&B Crossflow Muffler but I bet my two mufflers amoung others flow a bit better. Anyways, pretty interesting information I think. And you guys thought true duals where the best power makers

Yes I believe that is what its dubbed. Maybe the Tri part means triple the TQ? Huh? Maybe?

We are real lucky they dont list Mustang catbacks huh?
