McLaren SLR mercedes.

So my Dad got a call from his old neighbour.

"Peter, you better get down here quick"

Dad arrives to see a four month old Maclaren SLR

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/SLR.jsp

this guys nephew owns the car.

"Sure, if you want to take it for a spin around the block"

"Can I see what 617 HP will do?"

"Sure. its built to go fast. Have fun".

Not a particularly long test drive because the guy was pressed for time but my Dad is an old Mercedes fan. He called me up right away as excited as a virgin on Grad night.

Re: McLaren SLR mercedes.

That is a pretty amazing car. Saw it featured on an episode of Top Gear. Carbon fiber body...that much power with that little weight....scary.

Actually the new ZO6 is faster, 0-60 and I believe the 1/4 and is faster around the Nurburgring than it.

And it may have a carbon fiber body, but it is still a "heavy car" for a supercar(3748lb dry). and its an automatic.

Re: McLaren SLR mercedes.

the C6 Z06 is faster (just by a hair though)

i'd imagine the lap time at the NBR difference between the SLR and the C6 Z06 would be HUGE though (in favour of the Z06) because of the weight of the SLR being thrown around turns

i think we'd all rather have the SLR though, its an amazing piece of engineering (for an amazingly large price).... (still, F1 > SLR)

Don't think for me! I'd walk right by it to get to the 'vette. The price is insane, and the styling is just plain ugly...

I'd take a C6 Z06 over the Mercedes and pocket the change anyday. The bidding wars for used C6 Z06 will be fierce next year.

Re: McLaren SLR mercedes.

keep in mind that anybody buying a McLaren is buying it more as a status symbol than performance, not that a ZO6 isn't a status symbol, but these cars
are not in the same league. The only thing that is comparable is the performance. Would I buy a McLaren if I could afford it ?, probably not, I'd still get the ZO6.
By the way the first ZO6 cars started to ship on Sept 09. My car may already be built, but I won't find out till Monday. I still expect to get it before Oct. 24,for my scoot to Vegas.
