Itching for a hotcam kit!!!

can i just throw a LT4 hotcam kit in (new cam, valve springs, rockers etc) with stock heads and stock manifold , stock injectors and fuel components and be happy? I know you probably have to tune the pcm for it, but is it that simple? Any suggestions or simplicity advice needed.... I have a 97 SS M6 LT1

Re: Itching for a hotcam kit!!!

The hot cam was one of my first mods. and i ran it that way for a year no other mods except a borla cat back. but be careful it is adicking you get alittle power and you want more power and more power but i think you would be happy it is a good daily driver cam. i still am using mine with my supercharger and i am very happy .

I just rapped up the install myself last night. I haven't gotten on it all the way just yet but I did do a few WOT up to 5300rpms. The cam felt strong and you can tell the extra power is there. I am very happy that I went with the Hotcam Kit for my daily driver.

It's that simple. You might want to be prepared to put in a new chain if you got mileage on it.

Re: Itching for a hotcam kit!!!

I have heard of a bunch of people that have hotcams and are happy with them. I just got done doing a cam swap myself and my car is also a daily driver. I went with the CC305 cam which is a little hotter than the hotcam, I have stock manifolds, injecters, heads, y-pipe and stock tuning. I just got the car running last night and so far I have about 60 miles on the cam, the car is very streetable with no idleing problems, I have not gone WOT yet but I can tell the car runs very good and the power is definetly there. I have the Comp 986 double springs and ProForm 1.6RRs also. I love this cam and I think it is perfect, it has nice little lope to it at idle and runs great on the stock computer. But the great thing about the hotcam kit is that you get everything you need. You will like either one and if you want a cheap matched up kit then hotcam all the way.

Do headers first. A cam can be kind of a pain as you'll probably lose gas mileage and with out headers you won't gain alot.

Yeah headers would really be nice too.... Here in delaware, the sound DB limit is 95 and i squeek by with 94.7..... , I have ported exhaust manifolds so if headers were not so loud, hell yeah i would hehe

ported manifolds? i've heard only a few 96 SS's had that unless you added them yourself.

What is the likelyhood of getting spun bearings with the hotcam?

It really depends on how good of a job you do installing it.

Re: Itching for a hotcam kit!!!

with all the mods in my sig i am gitting around 17 or 18 if i drive with a light foot thats in town around 24 or 25 interstate. but it does only get about 10 if i get realy heavy into the pedal i think that the headers was more of a pain that the cam install but i did the cam when i was rebuilding the moter out of the car so.

i have the 503 and am happy with it, i heard that its a little hotter then the hotcam, but its very nice. i trried it without headers then put headers and CAI in and u can really tell the difference. i would save and get al the things to compliment the cam to get its full potential. its easier to do everything at once then keep tearing it down IMHO

Another vote for the Hot Cam. Very good price. Very nice boost in performance. Still get good mileage. Car sounds mean at an idle. I love it.

Does it have any lope or is it almost like the LT1 cam?

It has lope. Not a smooth idle by any means
