Joint Forces Project Puts the Brakes on Large-scale Illegal Street Race
On July 23, 2005 a joint project between the Delta Police Department, Commercial Vehicle Inspectors, Surrey RCMP, Richmond RCMP, RCMP Unit A Freeway Patrol and RCMP Traffic Services (with Air 1) successfully shut down an illegal street race that had been set to take place on Deltaport Way.
Earlier information that had been received by the Delta Police Department about the drag race gave police the opportunity to plan for the proposed event. Once it was confirmed that the race had commenced the area was blocked off and the three vehicles that had been identified as having participated in the drag racing were impounded under Provincial Street Racing Legislation. In addition to having their vehicles impounded, the individual drivers were each charged with Excessive Speed, some having reached estimated speeds of 150-160 km/hr in a posted 80 km zone.
In addition to the charges faced by the racers, there were 5 other vehicles towed due to defects in their vehicles that rendered them unsafe, 26 Notice and Orders (for vehicle repairs) issued, 21 Violation tickets served and 1-24 hour prohibition from driving served (as a result of alcohol consumption). Reports to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles are being submitted which may result in further driving prohibitions being imposed by the Superintendent. In total there were over 60 vehicles that were subject of an intensive examination process by the vehicle inspection unit.
The Delta Police Department, as well as the various RCMP agencies that lent their assistance, are sending the message to the illegal racing community that drag racing will not be tolerated in our community and will be dealt with in the strongest terms.

I might of sounded too harsh before... but seriously, why post stuff like this on a public place when everyone knows how hard the cops are on street racing??
It might of not of been the cause of this bust, but it sure doesn't help it
so was anyone from here at the event?

there's a reason for 'underground' websites where people post for street racing, because most people aren't stupid enough to want to post on multiple sites about a 'huge' event thats happening at one of the more 'heaty' locations for street racing...
having said this, why is it advantagous to have 20 cars come to a street racing meet, wouldn't one want to meet with perhaps 10 cars max, so as to race one another on a smaller scale, and actually be there to race to see who's performance car is faster (or who is the better driver), as opposed to try to show off to a group of 50+ cars and god knows how many people.... thats just my $0.02 on things, either way there is no doubt that DP is now deader than a dead man's dead bits as far as meets are concerned, but alas all good things come to an end because of idiocy (and there's plenty of that running rampant in ladner and tsawwassen)
