6,000 to spend, how to do it....

Hey guys, looking for some feedback on how to spend cash on the car...

brief stats:
95 Z-28, 130k on the car, 80k on the motor (was replaced under warrenty just after I bought the car @ 40k mark. Was a full crate deal, not just a rebuild)

Current parts/mods:
Intake and Exhaust
Borla Exhaust with no plate
K&N CAI
Stock Maf with no screen

Rear-end
Richmond 4.10 gears with an Auburn Diff and MAC girdle (maybe 15,000 km's on rear-end. No real noise, but it does leak a bit)

Transmission
T-56 with center force Dual Friction clutch and B&M Ripper Shifter - this was a brand new tranny ordered from a US dealership about 4-5 years ago. It has about 50k on it now, the clutch was also bought brand new and installed the same time. It works great for the most part, but I sometimes (hasn't happened in a few months now) its all but impossible to get it in first when the car is stopped, but if I shut the car off, it slides in easily. perhaps I need an Adjustable Master Cylinder?

Suspension
SLP weld in subframes, LG Lower control arms, panhard rod and Strut tower brace.

Wheels/tires/brakes
Corvette Wagon wheels with brand new (not installed yet) Falken tires in stock vette sizes (245/45ZR17 and 275/40ZR18)
LS1 front brakes with brand new Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS pads (not installed yet) and Stainless steel brake lines (not installed yet)

Misc
Tunercat, Scanmaster
Brand new Walbro 255 fuel pump (not installed yet)

Current issues with the car:
- It leaks!! Rear-Diff leaks, leaking oil from several spots up front. I want to get this fixed.
- Drivers side mirror is wrecked, needs to be replaced/fixed.
- Front bumper cover is cracked, this isn't a huge deal to me at this point.
- Paint isn't in great shape, but this isn't a huge deal to me at this point.
- Not super happy with the way the front sits on the vette wheels, would like to lower it a bit, maybe an inch or so in the front?
- These 4.10's are my 3rd set, and I want to race the car again, so it NEEDS a rear-end. I will not bother racing with the stock rear anymore. I'd rather buy a 9" or 12 bolt and sell my current before I blow it up again
- Sounds like a fairly big exhaust leak (stock manifolds)
- BLM's will bottom out FAST if not for tunercat setting injectors to 28lb's, tricking it to not dump as much fuel. leaking injector? Exhaust leak?

So! We've decided to not get a second car, and sink some cash into the camaro so we can use it for our around town needs (currently only putting around 5,000 km's a year on it, and this won't change. For any extended driving, a rental car will be used).

My goal is to make the car extremely realiable, while adding a bit of power to it... So no heads/cam installs, or nitrious or blowers or anything like that... That will come later. With this cash, I want to build the chassis so its ready for a high HP engine later. So basically supporting mods only at this point...

Things to buy:
Rear-End - 2,500?
Driveshaft - 500?
Headers - 500?
Injectors - 300?
shocks/springs - 700?
Fuel Filter - 20?
Plugs and Wires - 100?
New Opti (or one of the other options) - 500?
Pull engine and fix all leaks - 300?
Drop tranny to examine clutch - 100?
Adjustible master Cylinder - 200?
Fix Mirror - 100?

All of this comes to 5,820 give or take... Now I can sell my old rear-end, but no idea how much they go for, but i'm sure at least 400 bux or so... the diff alone was more then that when I bought it and i have receits for that for whatever good it'll do.

Can anyone think of anything else that would be good for a GREAT tune-up? Or any changes on prices would be awsome. Or if anyone has any of the above forsale, let me know as well!!

Thanks guys!

jeff

you should buy the one thing that everyone here has had trouble with at some point in there moding life.

Get a bigger Rear end!! Buy a 12 bolt mosier or 9" Ford and you'll be ready for any mods you feel like doing.... even dropping in a big block if you wanted.

I think a rear end is overkill and just added weight, you don't need it unless your going to be running slicks at the track

Re: 6,000 to spend, how to do it....

Overkill on the street for sure, but I definately wanna race the car again. And without a doubt I'll destory another stock rear-end...

I want to shoot for a very very fast time, on stock heads/cam... And when I say stock heads, i mean never off the car... no porting or anything...

Basically, I wanna learn to drive the car as best as possible. Then step up in power later. So basically a stock engine, but a strong rear-end so I can launch on slicks and not worry about the rear-end blowing up...

But speakign of a new rear-end, i think in most cases a new drive shaft is needed? I'll add that to my total...

Bunker, why'd you buy the 12 bolt if your so confidant in the 10?

thx guys!

I got a really good deal I couldn't refuse LOL, plus no doubt its nice to know I can put slicks/stickies ont he back, but definately if you're only using street tires I think the 10 bolt is more then good enough, I gave mine hell even powershifted no problems, but yeah so nice when I put DR's that Johnny lent me, the feeling was great!

Any of you guys have experience auto crossing with a 9" or 12 bolt? Any down sides other then additional weight?

yea, i've thought about that too...

but the car isn't worth selling... not in the shape its in... plus it has NO options... no AC, no power windows/doors... no one would want it when there are others out there with all these options...

So maybe i'll hold off on the rear-end... and just get it in good running shape again, not that its in bad shape now... but I can easily find 2-3 grand to spend on it

But as for buying a bike, thats 100% not even thought about Not ready to die yet, hehe EVERY person that I know since moving to this province that has owned/owns a bike has been struck by a car... not fun!!
