What brand heads have been on top?
What brand heads have been on top?
I've been out of the loop for a while and am just curious what the newest word is for heads these days.
What kinda numbers are people pulling NA?
What brand heads seem to be on top frequently?
and what size cam are you running?
I'm not looking for a flat out HP competition, I'm looking for cars in the 360-500 rwhp range and seeing what brands pop-up
thanks

Re: What brand heads have been on top?
Well, I'll chime in here. I've been running a Lingenfelter 383 for 10 years with nothing more than routine maintenance and have been extremely satisfied. The heads are LT-1s that have been CNC ported and hand blended and use 2.00"int, 1.56"exh. Manley severe duty valves. They flow 290 at .600" lift. The cam is small by the standards on this board for a 383. Its 211/219 @.050 with .533"int and .560"exh with 1.6 rockers. with 11:1 compression on 92 pump gas it laid down 420rwhp N/A. The dyno run was quite a few years ago but the car still runs high 11's at 118 mph on BFG drag radials with 3.42 gears. Although its not my daily driver it could be very easily...
As far as this board goes everyone raves about Joe Overton and Lloyd Elliot (I hope I spelled the names right) as being the two best heads/cam people to deal with for custom cams and head work. I've got no personal experience with either, but cars they've done have laid down some damn respectable, if not incredible, numbers on the dyno. And I've never heard of anyone here complain about bad service from either.

Re: What brand heads have been on top?
where are these sites, I did a search on Joe, found a lot of information on him, didn't search the other one yet.
I'm sure he owns a store and has a website does anyone know it.
thanks alot for the reply. I hear alot of things about the LPE also when the joe O cams. Seem to be pulling good numbers as well.
your pulling 118 mph. that's nice, what are you shifting at?

Re: What brand heads have been on top?
The computer has shift points set at 5800 rpm. I sometimes shift manually at 6000. It all depends on the conditions. I'm probably going to a 3.73 gear set. Guys at LPE feel it should keep engine in its power band and pull a little harder on top end. Shooting for 119-120 mph....
The only draw back with LPE is price, but you definitely get what you pay for--power & durability. LPEs cars don't win every super tuner shoot out by accident. They build their engines to last for over 100,000 miles of abuse, and I'm a good long term test dummy for their stuff.
However, from what I've heard, the best bang for the buck is Joe O. and Lloyd Elliott. AFR makes good heads, too. The LT-4s are decent, too. Comp cams makes a series of good cams for the LT-1, as well as GM with their HOT cam (smaller) and the "847" (bigger).

Re: What brand heads have been on top?
I believe Lloyd does great work but if you want the best(sorry Lloyd)... go take a look at www.advancedinduction.com I dont believe there is anybody else out there getting 420+ rwhp out of a stock displacement LT1.

Re: What brand heads have been on top?
Affraid I don't have dyno numbers yet, but I can tell you I've had a great experience with Advance Induction and Jeff at Carolina Auto Masters. I've only had my car together for a few weeks, and during that time I've been battling exhaust leaks. However, despite the leaks, the car runs STRONG.
The thing I really liked was that Phil and Jeff discussed my setup several times, and all three of us were always on the same page. It was nice having both my Porter and Tuner involved in creating a custom cam to fit my needs. I'm confident that I'm at or above the 400rwhp mark. Jeff is working on tweaking my tune while I'm in the process of installing a Spec 3 (my stock clutch doesn't appreciate my new found power
).
If you're planning on heads/cam package, you owe it to yourself to talk to these guys

Re: What brand heads have been on top?
Im gonna have to go with combination motorsports if you have the money for good heads. They arent cheap but get some damn good numbers out of their heads. There are also some good home porters out there too, especially a buddy of mine pulling 450 rwhp on a bone stock bottom lt1 (you can imagine the cam in that thing
). Just do research and choose whoever suits your best needs. Good luck in the future.

Everyone on this board it so cought up with flow numbers. Yea flow numbers are great but there is WAY more to heads than just flow numbers. If all the fuss should be concentrated on anything it should be COMBINATION.
