Stock lifter question

Hey guys, what have some of you gotten away with, as far as spring pressure on the stock lifters. I know the ramps of the cam come into play also, but I'm looking for some real life cases, not quesses. The Comp R's I'm using are not being very user friendly. I'd like to know if the stock lifters will do the job with some CC 987's and a small Joe O. cam. Open pressure is 350lb. at .600 lift, and the lift of the cam is .544. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Stock lifter question

Madwolf,
Seems like everyone is tired of the topic, but, we can't seem to set them properly. Almost like their not pumping up. Set at 0 lash and their way to noisy, plus there is up and down movement of the rockers after were done. Tried adding a little pre-load and thats no help either. Went as far as 1/4 turn past 0 and then it ran like crap.
That's why I'm asking how much spring pressure guys have used and are OK with the stock lifters.

Re: Stock lifter question

As you can see in the sig; I have the cc306...........I'm using stock lifters. The machine shop that did all my preping said they would be fine and so far they have. It's not like it was gonna cost him anything for the lifters when I asked if I should buy new ones so I trusted him. Like I said........so far no problems. I've had them on this set up for about 5000 miles and there was 145k on the car when I did this setup.

30696bird, What springs do you have with that aggressive cam? Any idea what open spring pressure you have? And thanks for replying.

Re: Stock lifter question

Did you try doing it with the engine running? I've seen someone do it a couple of days ago and it looked very easy. They were comp R's as well.
I did mine by bringing each cylinder to TDC the first time. Don't remember what I did the second time, but I screwed it up and had Speed Inc re-do it since I was going to dyno tune my car that day.

Re: Stock lifter question

I don't know alot about my springs, the machine shop p&p'd my heads and put them in. What I do know is the box they come in says PEP performance on it (in blue) and he said they were good up to .575 with NO problem. He gave me a warranty so I was happy with that.
