Headers or Gears

How much of a gain will I see from Pacesetter Long Tubes? Or Should I get 3.73 gears Installed in my 1997 Z28 A4? Which one would I see more of a difference?

Thanks,

What gears do you currently have with your A4? 2.73's or 3.23's?

It may depend on what gears you have, but I am betting you will see more gains from headers regardless. I love what my long tubes did for my car.

I recently got the 3:73's in my 97 A4. Along with a 2800 stall and shift kit they rock! After seeing nearly no difference in gas mileage I am now changing to 4:10's. I love the pull. I do not drive my car often, but it certainly is fun again. Huge difference!

I wouldn't recommend it. You are going to simply run out of gear. Search around on the website, and you'll find that people who tried 4.10's with an auto tranny didn't work very well.

AxeGrinder30thZ, I have only found two posts so far that stated that the person wanted to change back from 4:10's. As it is now I only take my car to an 1/8 mile track and it has plenty rev's to spare. Good tread on A4 w/4:10's

I do see a lot of people posting that they have a friend of a friend who once tried them... but not many that actually have them.

Now is the time to learn for me so I appreciate anyone’s personal experience with 4:10's in an auto. I have to change my posi so I figured now would be the time to do the 4:10 change. I also have a complete top end rebuild coming.

Thank you! I love this board

Sorry tv559, I didn't mean to hijack your thread - but I still say gears are awesome! I think no matter what order you go in you will end up wanting them both.

Well early this year I went with Mac Mid Length Headers and I loved it. One of my best mods I did. After that I went with a Torque converter. Another mod that was worth it. Yesterday, I got 3.42 gears installed coming from 2.73. Eventhough I felt the the difference, getting the headers was much more worth while!

My 3.42s made the single biggest difference in the performance "feel" for my car, plus they made the largest cut in my 1/4 mile ET.

I did my 4:10's first just out of lack of money for headers. The gears in my opp. best bang for the $ I went frome 2:73 to 4:10 and loved it richmond, love them to and not that loud!. About 4 months latter did my mac mid's, And oh ya! what a combo the car go's like a bat out of hell. My opp. is do what you can afford, you will be happy with whatever you choose.good luck and have fun!

Definatly get 3.73's if you have 2.73's. I had 3.23's and the gears felt like they added more than the headers did.
