Found my problem!

I was driving to lunch, and my SES light came on. I ate lunch, drove it to AutoZone, and the guy scanned it, and came up with PO133, and PO153. I JUST replaced these with brand new AC Delco O2 sensors about ~3 weeks ago when I installed my headers. The only things I can think of, are 1. The O2 sensor wires getting fried against the headers, or 2. The headers were smoking for a good 5 minutes when I first started it, and this could have screwed them up. I'm going to get under it and check everything out once it cools down (just got home). I'll keep you guys posted...I guess this explains the problems I've been having lately.

What is really interesting, that a lot of people getting these codes after installing LT's. If wires were fried I think that should be different code. Are you shure there is no leaks? Programming was after LT's? Anyway I'd bet for #2 (smoke screwed them up...)

hey dude sorry to hear about the smoke problem. remember we talked earlier? you dont think its a pacesetter-specific problem do you? or was it just a bad tune or something?

let us know how it runs with fresh O2s if thats what you are doing

Nice pics. Possibly smoke from headers damaged HO2's, that forced engine running rich and that killed them totally. BTW driver side don't look terribly bad.

Nope, it's pretty common for new headers to smoke for a few minutes...

My O2's also crapped out after my header install. I'm running MAC mids though.

My codes were similar P1133, and P1153 (Insufficient switching for the front O2's)

I had an exhaust leak for a couple hundered miles after the install. That could have wiped them out.

Or it coul be the header coating baking/curing off

Or it could be the RTV I used on the header gaskets burning.

So what I did was drive with it with the bad O2's for a few hundred miles after I got the exhaust leak fixed, and to make sure that the coating and RTV were all baked away or cured.

THEN I changed my O2's, and it's been great for the last 300 miles. I can tell it's not running as rich anymore. My gas milage is good again also. (18 mpg on this last tank and that includes a few WOT runs on the dyno)

Just make sure you have any leaks fixed before you change them and unplug your battery for a while to reset the PCM.

Would a collector leak after the O2 sensors cause this problem?

just an FYI. headers smoke when you first start the car because all that grease that's on them, from touching them while putting them in, is burning off.

If it's close enough yes, but I'm not sure how close the collector gaskets are to the O2's on your headers.

On mine it's only about 1"

How long does this burning process take? I'm asking because I finally fire up my LT1 S10 this weekend and don't want to run into the same problems because of my headers and O2 sensors.

Just a quick question. I got my headers installed 2 weeks ago. I know i have an exhaust leak and the shop also forgot to put my collector gaskets on. My car is running very rich. mid to low 11 a/f and mid 10's up top. Do you think this could of killed my new o2's i just put in the car.

Be sure they are getting 12v on the pink wire. That is for the heater circuit. If that is not working, these codes can show up. Might be a suspect, since you are getting the same code on both sides. All O2s are fed by the same fuse.

Now that I think of it, the SES light came on EXACTLY the same time I shut my A/C off.....does this mean anything?

Also, I found all this white crap above the wires on the driver side O2 connector (the one that goes to the PCM). I could barely fit my hands up there for the passenger side one, so I couldn't get a pic or see if there was crap on it.
