Headers - do they improve fuel economy?

In theory, headers *should* improve gas mileage, but did any of you actually notice any improvement? I just got back from an 1100 mile trip (again) and I'm ready to install headers thinking they might make the engine run a little cooler and improve highway gas mileage a little.

Your thoughts?

Greg

Talking

My fuel mileage actually got worse. So I went back to the place that installed 'em and complained. They told me to get my damned foot out of it.

Yes i gained a little but not alot. It will gain you mpg because of the less restriction but I dont keep my foot out of the gas enough to notice hehe. Which is what most people will tell you about their experience.

I keep track of my gas mileage and didn't notice any difference after I got headers.

if you think about it you shouldnt gain really any MPG, the only time the fact they are lower restriction matters is near WOT, so the other 99% of the time it is just about the same

You will like the sound so much your fuel economy will go down

Your right foot will be planted and you will turn the stereo down just to hear it

Well, according to your sig you have a 10 foot sub in your car. Trailer that around or what?

As for the original post, I haven't noticed anything....because my foot stays in it.

You mean subs, so he's trailering around more than 1...

Anyway I noticed a couple mpg increase after I installed mine, as long as I'm able to keep my foot out of it.

To sum it all up...

Yes, you can get better gas mileage...

But it's not likely that you're going to see it...

Maybe on long trips- cruising....

Cool

Yes

My highway mileage went from 27ish to 30ish on my monthly 250, 300 and 800 mile round trippers

I log mileage for work and run mpg on fill ups.

B4 header install 400 mile trip was 28 mpg

After header install next day 400 mile round trip was 30 mpg driving 65 mph with cruise control on.

jim,

I notice in your sig that you have SLP headers. I am thinking of getting those (shorties) - how hard were they to install?
