Speeding tickets

I haven't had a speeding ticket in 7 years and I get two in one day! Started my Seattle trip going over the Port Mann, my buddy warned me of the cop up ahead on the inside lane, I was on the outside lane just after the Port Mann coming up Johnston hill. Two other cars passed the cop then I did. He pulled right behind me and pulled me over. Said I was doing 143k's on his radar over the bridge, I said impossible cause I was going with the flow in heavy traffic. Then he said "well maybe it wasn't you but I was doing 110 and you passed me." I said, "what about the other two cars that just passed you? I think he pulled me over cause I didn't have plates, I was on a permit. I will go to court and dispute this one for sure. Got the second ticket on the I-5 returning from the Dream theater concert in Seattle. Police clocked me at 82 mph in a 60 zone, I thought it was a 70 zone and pleaded for grace. Cop said we don't give grace, I'll have to cough up the $185.00 US for this one. Cop said I was flying, I said 82 mph feels like you are barely moving in the bird. He eyed up my bird and agreed. Better get a radar detector when I install the new sound system, any recommendations?

Man, that really sucks. Cops can be tough down here. I've heard nothing but good things about the Excort Passport and Valentine 1. Also, I'm not sure how US tickets will affect your Canadian driving record, but if it will, I would highly recomend you hire an attorney from the Seattle area. I've gotten cleared about 90% of the time using one. It's worth keeping your record clean and insurance cost down in my opinion. Plus, you may not even have to show up to court. Just have the attorney appear on your behalf.

Too much money for a lawyer, The US ticket shouldn't affect my Canadian driving record (I hope)? I'm going to challenge the canadian ticket but I'll just pay the US ticket. Have I learned my lesson? Yea, I'll get a radar detector.

To bad man.

I had the opposite in my car. Cruisin back from everett and was doing 110 MPH and stomped on the brakes. The cop was poissed. I said my car was smoking and needed to make it back. (it wasn't a lie as I had boosted and black came out ). I said sorry a few times and he gave me a warning. Said if I got pulled over again he had my plate number and would give me a double fine. I was happy.

by th way > By the time I saw the cop, I was going about 90 (for what he saw )

So far so good!

tix in the US have no effect on your Canadian driving record.

Be careful in the US - get caught doing 100+ mph and you might just find yourself spending the night in jail with your car impounded.

Indeed. It is consider a federal offense and jail time often happens. They take it serious.

Drummie, don't feel too bad. I have NEVER seen as many radar/laser traps around as I have this past two months. I used to go two or more months w/o seeing a trap... but lately, I see 5 or so each WEEK.

Seriously, I believe they have mandate to collect some extra funds right now, and so they are really out in force. No warnings. 20 times the manpower. This is the word from an officer friend of mine.

my brother has tried both of the radars and the valentine 1 picks up more police and gives you more warning then the other one, + the V1 also tells you which direction it is coming from (helpful if it shows the cop far behind you, you can just put the pedal down a little farther and just avoid him all together) Valentine 1

I had a couple of top of the line Bell detectors and had problems with them all. Ended up getting my money back and buying a cheap Uniden. It's worked well and has lasted my for about 3 years. Saved my bacon a ton of times! It's probably not as good as a valentine, but for $150, you can't go wrong.

I've seen quite a few traps too, saw one yesterday on the Mary Hill Bypass at Wendy's/Tim Horton's gunning people coming westward. I've seen other threads and most recommend the Valintine 1 so that's the one I'll get. Thanks for lowdown Draco on the US ticket.
