Forged bottom end needed in 383?

When my bottom end finally goes, I am planning on a 383. Most of the short block's and "kits" out there a complete forged bottom ends. I am assuming that the upgraded forged parts are also creating a higher price. If I never plan on any power adders and am just wanting 400 rwhp, is a forged bottom end necessary. If not, does anyone know of some inexpensive "kits" or short blocks, out there? Thanks,

Kyle

I don't think it's necessary for the application you mentioned. Personally, I'd probably go forged on the rods and pistons, and stay cast on the crank. Check out the Eagle ESP line. Actually, check out AP Engineering and the engine kits they offer. I just put an order in for the 355 Cheap Streat kit, and I'm planning on about 440-450 hp at the wheels. They guaranteed me that it's going to be fine for my application. N/A, no power adder or spray, keep it under 7K.

A lower end that will hold up to 400 rwhp, a stock can. As for buying a 383 kit ... a "cast" set up will hold up fine for 400 rwhp NA .

I would run forged pistons, and cast everything else. SHould be plenty safe with that

Running N/A there is not need for forged pistons. A good set of Hypers like Keith Black will be lighter than forged and have less clearance issues in the bore allowing for less oil consumption ect.

Well i just speak from experience. I have seen a few NA 383s blow hypers if they get any detonation at all. The extra 200 or so bucks would be well spent on forged parts there IMO.

If you blow a Keith Black Hyper N/A??? , you have more serious problems than pistons. Like I also mentioned they are lighter also. No need at all to have a forged piston N/A especially at 400 RWHP.. I am speaking from experience also. P.S. do not get your car tuned at the same place as those blown up N/A cars

No these werent keith blacks, i think they were speed pro?

The one time an injector locked and blew piston all over the place.

Next time was in midst of tuning run and it let go. Knock counts werent jumping around at all, so who knows why it went that time.

The motor had some pretty high dynamic compression too, barely pump friendly. That didnt help matters.

I could see it with very high compression and serious detonation. That would suck..I ran 2 motors with KeithBlack..I had some detonation issues once when my fuel pressure dropped..But they held up well.
