Random misfire

Any ideas, I know it's pretty vague, but if anyone had anything that I could try? Thanks!

I would try to go into a really dark place and see if your wires are arcing anywhere. If not i would suspect its your opti. That is what would throw the random misfire usually.

Damn, I just replaced my wires and it was doing it before that too. I'm guessing that it wouldn't be worth replacing the opti for something like this. It's the origonal opti and has 160k on it.

lol...just be happy you made it to 160k with your original opti. i would say change that thing either way. If it doesn't help at least you know that it isn't the problem. Either way it will be a problem very soon. The job is pretty easy also.

Well thanks. What's the difference in getting the entire opti or the distributer cap and rotor? What would you do?

Wow My original Opty has 142k miles and I thought I could brag about it but when I see your mileage I have only one response....

I too have been considering replacing the opty. While at it I will replace all the gaskets and probably the Water pump too. I only have like 20k miles on the water pump but I an thinking to keep the current one as a spare replacement part just in case.

Yesterday I finally pulled my EGR off the engine and it had some carbon deposits. I connected a hose to the EGR and applied some vacum to check for leaks and boy that thing was leaking big time. No vacum build up at all. I cleanned it the best way I could and did a retest.. now I am able to build vacum and but slowly bleeds off... I am not going to replace it just yet.. I may delete it in the future. Slap that sucker back on the engine and I didnt really notice any difference... I have a misfire every now and then and I can barely feel it...so I know it wasnt the EGR but everybit helps and it was leaking so I guess i did some good.

If you replace your Opty and the problem goes away please post again... Id like to find out.

Marvin
