1996 auto vette convertible vs. 6 speed ls1 camaro

I know a guy with the vette mentioned above, and he says that there is no way an ls1 camaro could beat his car in a race. That chevy would never make their "mid-sports car" faster than the vette. I personally think he's a ****tard, and that the camaro would own him. I just need some real people's opinions. All he does is keep quoting car and driver numbers......

i think the 96 corvettes had like 300 hp stock maybe more and the ls1 makes probably 30 more than that but the corvettes are a considerable amount lighter than the camaros.. am i right? I think it would probably be pretty close

That vette is heavier then the LS1 camaro because it's a vert. They're no more powerful then an LT1 f-body. He'd get spanked

the LT1 vettes were 300 horse...the LT4 and GS vettes were 330 horse

and that vert vette would run toe-to-toe with that LS1

its just depends on how good the driver is in the ls1. Because the vette isn't really gonna mess up the launch. It should be a pretty good race though.

Vettes dont really start to pull bad on an F-Body until 90+, so adding in the the LT-1 to LS-1 and the fact that a convetible is heavy, I would say that the camaro would walk away from the vette

Not all vettes were lt4, though. It's an lt1 vette.

My vote goes for the LS1, without a doubt

FWIW, I was in my buddies 01SS saturday night. It has borla, lid, 6speedwithhurst and ram air(duh), some custom MAF, K&N and 3.73gears. Another kid we hang out with as a 95 LT1 vette, auto...only mods are flowmaster mufflers(lol), shiftkit(so he says) and some custom hidden ram air, MSD ignition/wires, K&N. Now these are both slightly but pretty equal IMO.

We only raced to about 95mph(i was in the LS1, the LT1 vette had a passanger also)...he ripped us out of the hole by a car or slightly more and held it to about beg of third...then we started to creep up on it and at 90or so mph we had the vette at the rear bumper. We were really starting to pull hard (95mph is in the area where the LS1 likes to pull top of 3rd) but we shut down due to traffic coming up quickly. We got back to the hangout and asked if he wanted to run again because of the traffic. He said, "No way guys!"..."That thing ****ing hauls *** up top. At about 80mph I had over a car on you, then by 90...you were straight out flying by me. Is there a hidden nitrous kit on that thing?!?!" lol, hahaha. All in all was a fun night. Just wish I could have taken my beast out, but its down for manitaince I think the vette held its own just like an LT1 would. Did good till up top, then no chance against the mightly flowing LS1 with a stock LT1.

the LT1 vettes are nothing for LS1 f-bods to worry about. the 300 horsepower is just a rating. I took an LT1 auto vette from a light in my near-stock LT1 camaro.

Bottom line is, if the LS1 driver is good, he will walk the vette like a well trained dog: it wont put up much of a fight.

But, the A4 will get offf the line faster, and if the LS1 driver has a horrible launch and cant drive, the LT1 will win.

Just my .02

Paul

LT1 automatic Vettes are pretty sluggish since they came with 2.59 gears, doh! You need to order the performance axle to get... 3.08s I think.

All the 6-speed LT1s have 3.45s.
