Rear end noises

I was just wondering this...for a few months now my rear has been making strang noises. Example when making a U turn in a neighborhood I have enough momentum to make the turn so I took it out of gear and I heard a lovely "grinding" sound from the back of the car. Its hard to explain because its almost like a poping sound as well. I took the cover off and everything else and tried to move the yoke around to see if anything was off balance...spider gears are fine, ring and gear is fine. So I'm stumped on this one.

Also, I think my shocks are gawn in the back. I hear something bottoming out and makes a noise when I hit a valley in the road. It's fine when I go over speed bumps and what not. but if I'm cruising at 55 on the highway (or faster) and hit a valley (not a bumb in the road) it makes thats noise.

Thanks for the help!!!

-Eddie

Sorry this should be posted in the drivetrain forum.

stupid question, but did put in the GM-limited slip additive in when you refilled the rear?

I hear ya man, no pun intended. I have like 130,000 miles on my rear end, yeah it whines, grinds, and makes noises that should come only out of certain bodily orifices.

The miles take a toll, I would focus on getting some shocks to both improve the safety of your car, as well as take care of that noise problem. Your only solution for the rear end is to get it repaired or, replaced with something that won't break. I myself am stepping up to an 8.8 because of differential selections, otherwise I would throw in a 12 bolt.

Get some new springs with your shocks as well.

Replace the c-clips??? How come? Yeah, I have 130,xxx on my Z and it runs like a beast but theres noises that are starting to show up around the car.

Also, its not a stupid question...I have actually forgotten to buy limited slip additive before when refilling the diff. I didnt drive it around or anything but went back and bought it. But to answer your question, yes I did remember to put some in.

What is everyone using for after market shocks and struts?

Thanks guys!
