timing sets

What kinda timing chain sets are you guys running? I think i saw the the cloyes were cheaper? When i do my cam swap is it necessary to put a heavy duty set on or replace it with the factory stuff?

1. at the very least get a stock replacement
2. the LT4 extreme duty is stronger than stock, but kinda pricey around $200
3. the Cloyes double roller is cheaper, stronger, but require you to run an electric water pump and do away with your CPS if you have an OBD2.

i run a cloyes double roller, havent had any problems so far

You need to do a vented opti conversion if you want to use a LT4 ED timing set on a non vented opti car.

Yeah the 93/94s are limited if youre going to use the 93/94 opti. Its not too bad of a swap you just need the newer opti, short harness that runs from the opti to the harness at the side of the intake, and the vacuume lines to the intake ducting and then to the intake.

If youre using an electric water pump youre options open up quite a bit. with the 95 up opti.

While it is not necessary to move up to a better set than the oem LT1 version, I would highly recommend it for a modified LT1. If you looked at the oem LT1 next to the GMPP LT1/LT4 Extreme Duty timing set, the choice is easy. The ED set is clearly better built, is surely stronger and should provide more accurate timing that the oem one. The only drawback is the price. GM is price gouging because there are few performance oriented alternatives to the LT1 oem chain and the ED set has limited competition.

JASON CROMER, do a search for his phone #, he has the cheapest new GM parts around, he works at a dealership in FL.

I am doing a 93 LT1 buildup, I am going with the CSI electric water pump and using the non vented opti, what timing chain options do I have? Can I use a regular SBC timing chain set? Thanks.
