Question why is my Borla so loud

I had true 3" dual before on my car. Eventually they got obnoxiouslly loud, so I bought used borla and thought about getting a cutout for it. However, my car is still very loud, actually when I step on a gas, its sounds even louder than my previous setup .Also my borla clamp where you intall a pressure plate is very rusted, so I cannot separate the pipe and see what's in there. Any ideas how to separate the part where you installthe plate? If you have borla, what you think about it. My mods are in my signatue.

My duals are quieter than my flowmaster/cutout setup last year. Borla is a loud exhuast system.

But I still don't see why. I thought the only reason my neighbors hated my car before was because of my true 3" duals, and I was thinking when I get sick of it, I would change back to catback with no cats (like one of my friends from Dekalb predicted). But now I am a bit dissapointed. Those crome tips of Borla look very nice, but its too loud.

it's not the chrome tips making it loud, it's the design, but if you bought the full catback setup you should be able to just install a reducer plate to force more through the Borla muffler vs the straight-thru passenger side (if it's wide open no restrictor plates).

Try some PB blaster or something similar around the blockoff plate area, that should help. I assume you have no cats My SLP single cat headers and Borla were pretty mellow with the single cat installed. With the ORP in and Borla open it does sound waaaaay meaner now. I would really like to get one of those electronic cutouts for the Borla to tame it down at times, especially for when I drive it to work. Not all people enjoy the sound for some reason

Having a CC306 cam and ported heads with longtubes headers, won't help a whole lot either.

I love my camaro, but I am a new grad student in a place where everyone is pretentiously nice, smart, and driving Toyota Prio's/saturns... My new girlfriend didn't see my car yet too, and she is very nice girl too. For all the people I know around my Engineering college, car is just a mean of transportation, and for me it means much more. My right leg's position is very closely related to my smile . I don't want to be too showy by driving a loud car, I hoped to get a cutout, but now it seems that its loud anyways.

Borlas are "THE" top of the line when it comes to cat backs... You should be able to adjust your block off plates...if not what type of Borla is it?

I have no clue what kind of borla it is. Is there any way to distinguish. I still cannot open the pipe where the pressure plate is located, its too rusted. I will try using a torch on it tonight. I don't have any extra pressure plates too. Are they expensive, worth investing the money, if I am still planning on getting a cutout

[I love my camaro, but I am a new grad student in a place where everyone is pretentiously nice, smart, and driving Toyota Prio's/saturns...]

Not to be an *** but that would make me want it even louder.

[My new girlfriend didn't see my car yet too, and she is very nice girl too. ]

Again--Not to be an *** but I wouldnt let a girl influence my way of life like that. If she doesnt like the car, might need a new girl and not a new setup.

[For all the people I know around my Engineering college, car is just a mean of transportation, and for me it means much more. My right leg's position is very closely related to my smile.]

You said it yourself above, if you are satisfied with your car, to hell with what other people think. You can't go around trying to please everyone else.

Hope you get things set up the way you want.

Big cam + LT + No cat = Loud.
Better get used to it, wuss.

If the girlfriend doesn't like it, perform girlfriend upgrade.

I would expect a math nerd to be smarter than that.

I had the same problem with my borla. I couldnt get the two pieces of the pipe apart. I finally got my one mechanic friend to stay after at the shop and just torch them off. I found out that i had the middle plate in it. It was kinda quiet for me, so now its wide open. And i really like it. If you want to buy the plates, you can, straight from borla. They cost like 40 bucks or something like that.

* PS, you go to UIUC? If so, I do to, but dont have my car down there with me. I would love to see your car sometime, and would love to hear how it sounds with no cat, long tubes, and with that cam, i bet it sounds awesome!!!

When I bought my current TA, it too had the block-off area rusted. The previous owner couldn't find the tuning plates either which lead me to believe it was wide open (it was much too loud for me). I had to take it to a shop and have the bolts cut off and then re-tapped. When they opened it up there wasn't any plate at all. I picked up all 4 plates from a board member for $20 bucks. I like having the ability to change the exhaust; blocked off for trips, mild for in town driving, and open for racing. If you can't find the plates here or at LS1.com, look on e-bay.
