LS1 brake upgrade for LT1
I wanted to know if anyone who has upgraded their brakes on an LT1(1993-1997) with LS1 stock and then tried to use the stock salad shooters on them? Will it fit, cause I've got slicks on the 16" (245-40-16)and do not want to be left with only a 17" set-up. I like to be able to switch. I think the spare for the LS1 is 16"(guessing....hoping)Budget$$$. Appeciate any help or other ideas. Thanks.
I am not sure what the term "salad shooter" refers to, but my 1995 Firebird has the LS1 front brakes on it and it currently also has the stock 16x8 Firebird wheels on the car. No problems with brake clearance.

Well, I've got a 94' Z28 with the salad shooters. Just did the LS1 upgrade on the front. Referece the link below and see for yourself. Just go to the Car/bike album, and pics of the brakes are at the bottom, and on page 2.
Also, you can to an LS1 upgrade on the rear, but you have to change rear axles; not worth it at all, but the front upgrade is well worth it.

The parking brake is on the inside of the rear brake rotor on an LS1 car. On an LT1, the parking brake is in the center (indepedent of the rotors).
It's just a different configuration. You have to change the axles for the same reason you have to change the spindles on the front.
Simply, the front upgrade is well worth it, but just leave the rear an LT1 setup.

It has nothing to do with the parking brake, nor is it the same reason you have to swap the spindles for the fronts.
Never said the rear conversion had anything to do with the front, just that you had to change the spindles. Also, the parking brake IS different on the two setups. I did misspeak when I said it was independent of the rotors, it's not. However, it is different on an LS1, the parking brake is actually on the inside of the rear rotor; the only point is, it's different.
The biggest thing I was driving at is that it's not worth it to try and upgrade the rear, just leave it alone; get better rotors and pads. However, the front upgrade is worth it, but you do have to get different spindles for the LS1 setup.
That's the only point I was trying to make. Sure didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers.

I wasn't being sarcastic above. If it read that way, sorry. Completely unintentional.
If I understand this correctly, if I need to get replacement spindles on my 1995 Firebird that is equiped with LS1 front brakes, I have to order LS1 spindles, correct? I just bought the car a couple of weeks ago and still trying to understand the car.
Thanks.

No. If you already have the LS1 brakes, then you have what you need. If your car has the LT1 setup, you need to get the new spindles to support the LS1 setup.
If you already have it, then you already have it; simple as that.
Sorry for any confusion. It was not intentional on my part either.

Yes, but do replacement spindles on a factory LT1 car with the LS1 front brakes need to be LS1 spindles or LT1 spindles? I am about to start road racing and I think that understanding what I need to buy in the case of an "off course" is important to understand.

My previous car was an LS1 that was close-to-stock and I understood the car. ...walking into a car parts place with the proper answer is important...
