What SS lines for C5 brakes

Probably picking up a C5 front brake conversion kit with Bob Bishop brackets. Anyway, what stainless steel braided lines will I need, just the replacements for stock LT1?

Also, would powdercoating the calipers be alright, or will it wear off and look bad after a little while?

Jon,

On an LT1 car, after converting to front C5 brakes, you need brake hoses the length of the stock C5 hose. That is @ 14.75” from the tip of the threaded end to the center of the hole in the banjo fitting. I tried one set of Earl’s front C5 hoses and that set was way too short. With the wheel at full droop, you need to be able to turn the wheel to full left and right lock without the hose being pulled tight AT ALL. LS1 cars mount the hardline differently and use shorter hoses.

There are mechanical reasons that I would avoid powder coating calipers, especially aluminum calipers. If you are getting used calipers that look bad, I would get them glass beaded and then paint them with hi-temp engine paint. Or you could get Eastwood caliper paint for $48.

So what lines from Earls would I have to buy? Or do I just tell them I need a SS line that is that specific length with a banjo bolt for a C5 caliper?

Also I will be glass blasting them when I get them, I just didnt know what would hold up the best to coat them. I used 500 degree paint on my stockers and when I would wash it the color would fade, I think thats just cuz they were red though, maybe I should use a different color.

I tried to order custom length hoses from Earls through a local dealer @ 3 years ago. Earls was totally uncooperative and the dealer finally gave up after 3 phone calls to Earls. Since then they were bought out by Holley, so the new management may be better, or worse. If you can find an employee there who gives a flip, I would ask them the length of their C5 front hoses. If they are close, I would get them. To order custom, you will also need to know the thread and flare type of the connector on the hardline end. Earls absolutely refused to tell me that when I asked.

I use OEM C5 front hoses, but if I could get some Earls to fit correctly, I would try a set. I like the idea of Earls thicker Teflon tubing.

Eastwood’s caliper paint is rated to 900*, but you probably didn’t get close to 500* with the paint you used.

Im still a little confused. So, besides the length, where it connects to the caliper and to the car, would for example the stock hose even connect to the caliper, or do you need the corvette line for that reason, and if so, will the corvette line connect to the car? So hypothetically, if the C5 line from earls is longer than 15" or whatever, I can get that and it will hook right up, or would I be better off finding out what the threads and stuff are on each end and custom ordering it?
