Just wanted to know how feasible it is to do that good a P&P job. What cam are you using with the setup to get there and at what RPM are you maxing?

There aren't too many over 400rwhp, even if you count inflated STD #'s...

 

Exactly. What work (and by who) needs to be done to get stock heads to flow good enough to accomplish this 400 RWHP/TQ?

 

So are you just looking for peak numbers for bragging rights, or because you want your car faster when you need it. A car over 400 peak hp could be slower than a car with under 400, its all in when you have the power. If you just want to see over 400rwhp on the dyno sheet than get some sweet ported heads, maybe look into lloyd elliot. get a nice cam from combo matched to your flow numbers. some longtubes would help. and a sweet dynotune and youre there, its been done a few times so it can be again, but i think the most critical part is the dynotune.

 

I know a guy locally with some hogged out stock LT1 heads and a GM 847 cam that makes darn near right at 400 at the wheels. He got his heads done at http://www.flowtechnics.com

BTW are you talking bout Ken? I know he was trying for 400 but I thought he was using an XE cam.

 

I know I'm 25 short of 400, but the guy who did my heads said that if I switched to Hooker LT's and an ORP that I'd be there.

There's plenty of cars running around with 400 RWHP on stock ported heads, but finding one with 400 RWTQ is the difficult part. Most cams have so much duration that the TQ numbers really get squashed.

 

Yes, I know Ken had his done there, but I'm not talking about him. Just haven't seen his dyno #'s, but I'm sure they're nice #'s. I was referring to the Groo-master.

 

I haven't seen several guys making over 400rwhp.

There are a lot of people close but when it comes to being over 400rwhp it seems there are only a couple of head porters that can accomplish it. Phil from Advanced induction and the guy on the east coast called tin shed something and probably TEA.

I'm sure there are more that can do it but I think it's safe to say there are a lot who can't. For whatever reason maybe the porting is not as good and the cam selection isn't the best but there are a lot of guys who fall short even with strokers.

 

There's a guy that got his heads from Phil www.advancedinduction.com making almost 420 to the wheels on stock heads. I'm not sure if he lists the cam but I'm pretty sure there's a dyno sheet on the website somewhere.

Ehh, I'm kinda close, with room for improvement. 384 rwhp with Lloyds heads and a 230/236 112cl.
The room for improvement conditions on that pull: 60k original opti, 1st mail order tune, 100* day, stock water pump, FLP's 2 1/2" y-pipe, stock t.b.
Maybe, just maybe, there's a little more there if I improve on the above. Maybe?

Ok, I am seeing a pattern here. Most of you that are putting down 400 RWHP or are close (good luck Quicksilver) are doing it above 6K RPM with a TQ much lower than 400.

Is the only way to achieve this by getting our cars to scream like that? I really would like to maintain a long lived machine and having strong TQ run past 6K RPM seems to be detrimental to our engine longevity.

But hey, I have asked and I am getting my answers.
